Brown Bag Author Series

Monday, May 7 @ 12 noon - Join the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library for a talk with author Jon Lurie about his new book Canoeing with José. No registration necessary, just bring a sack lunch or enjoy the light refreshments provided.
 Crow Wing County Master Gardener Class - Tuesday, May 8 @ 12 noon - Growing Hardy Roses Up North with Jackie Burkey** - Learn how to grow beautiful roses that have been bred for our cold winters. Family Book Club

Wednesday, May 9 @ 4pm - May's selection is Pay It Forward. Join us to discuss this book, ideal for kids ages 8-12. Copies of the book are available at the front desk. No sign up needed.
Brainerd Adult Book Club - Wednesday, May 9 @ 1pm - We'll be discussing Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout. The world of Olive Kitteridge, a retired school teacher in a small coastal town in Maine is revealed in stories that explore her diverse roles in many lives, including a lounge singer haunted by past love, her stoic husband and her own resentful son. Crafternoons for Adults - Thursday, May 10 @ 2pm - Springy Folded Paper Projects - Join other craft-minded grown-ups for a fun afternoon of easy-going creative time making boxes, stars, and more from simple colored paper. All supplies are provided for this free series for adults by the Friends of the Brainerd Public Library.

Computer Classes

If you are new to computers, haven't used them for a while, are a little unsure and uncomfortable, or just need a bit of a refresher, we have the tools to help you tackle technology at your own pace and gain the confidence you need to succeed. All classes taught using computers equipped with Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2013, unless otherwise noted. Class size limited to 10 students.

Computer Basics I - Get started on a computer. Learn to use a mouse and begin to search the internet safely. No experience needed. Register here.

Drive Disk Cloud pt 1: Cloud Storage and Alternatives
 - Our lives are increasingly stored on our computers and devices--where do we put it all? And just what is "the cloud," exactly? Basic familiarity with computers required. Register here.
 
Thursday, May 24, 2:30-4:30pm
Intro to Microsoft Word 2013 - Type & edit a
letter using Word tools and features. Learn
about saving and sharing files. Ability to use
mouse and keyboard required. Register here.

Love books and authors? Love wine and a great time? Join the Friends of the Library for the 6th Annual Wine and Words fundraising event at Grand View Lodge! Kid's Events

Imagination Monday: Springtime Symmetry  – Monday, May 7 @ 3:30pm  Insects abound! Have fun creating  surprising examples of symmetry in the bug world. From beautiful butterlies to bright beetles, enjoy the process and product while creating your own 'entomology' exhibit. Ages 8-12, no registration required.

Green Screen Movies – Tuesday, May 8 @ 3:30pm  –  Create your own mini-movie! Use green screen technology to change the background and let the camera roll. Ages 8-12, limit 10. Call 218-829-5574 or register online.

LEGO WeDo 2.0 Robots – Monday, May 14 @ 3:30pm  –Build a robot out of LEGOs, then learn how to code commands for it! Ages 7-12, limit 10. Call 218-829-5574 or register online.

Squishy Circuits – Tuesday, May 22 @ 3:30pm  –  Learn about electricity using play dough! Using conductive and insulating play doughs, build your own creation. Then use LED lights and a battery pack to light it up. Ages 8-12, limit 10. Call 218-829-5574 or register online.
