E-Update - April 2018
IMPACT Conference

IMPACT, a USGBC hosted event, is where you can learn about the latest updates for LEED, green business programs and new technologies like Arc. This year’s conference theme is “The New Way Forward.”
 

IMPACT 2018 will be held April 30-May 1 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre (175 W Kellogg Blvd, St Paul, MN 55102) in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Registration is open.

APA MN North Loop Tour
Please join us on Friday, May 4th for a walking tour of recent urban core redevelopment sites in Minneapolis' North Loop neighborhood. On this exclusive tour, you will learn about the origins and vision of these sites, the key players involved, and the planning and design decisions that led to implementation. CM credits have been applied for and are pending.

National Planning Award
Congratulations to The Metropolitan Council for its National Planning Achievement Award from the APA, for its Local Planning Assistance/Local Planning Handbook. It will be honored at the 2018 National Planning Conference. More information on the award and the project is available on the APA website.

The Metropolitan Council's PlanIt resource pages now have:

Regional Housing Forums
The Governor’s Task Force on Housing invites you to participate in one of several regional forums to inform the development of Task Force recommendations. Upcoming events include:
  • Duluth - April 24, 5:30-8:30 PM
  • Golden Valley - April 26, 6-9 PM
  • Crookston - May 3, 3-5 PM

APA Nominations

APA chapters and divisions that will elect new leaders this year are inviting candidate nominations.

The Minnesota Chapter is seeking nominations for the following positions:

  • President
  • Vice-President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

If you are interested in running for a leadership position, you may sign up at the APA nominations website. Candidates’ position statements are due by May 15. Online voting will begin in August. If you have never used the nominations website, choose “Sign Up Here!” to register. You will be asked to confirm your email address before you can log in.

CPTED Training
St. Paul Public Schools office of Security and Emergency Management in conjunction with the University of Louisville is offering the four day Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Course August 13-16. This class is typically in high demand and does not come to Minnesota often. Registrations is available online.
 
Bike + Walk Conference

The Bike+Walk Minnesota Conference is a multidisciplinary conversation about the intersection of active transportation, community development, inequities, and advocacy. Professionals and advocates from across Minnesota will come together and go beyond breakout sessions to explore connections between biking and walking, discuss how communities are creating better public spaces for all users, and address the open-ended question of what comes next for transportation and recreation options in the North Star State.
