XVI Triple Helix International Conference 2018: new Speakers and support programs!

Our THA Executive Committee Member  Dr Christiane Gebhardt  will present at the panel "The Triple Helix: Reflections and Prospects", to be held during the THC2018 on 8th September.

This plenary panel engages prominent internationally-recognized researchers in a roundtable to consider the legacy, influence and future trajectories of Triple Helix concepts and practices.

More info will be soon available on the Conference web page

We are also pleased to inform our Community of the available support programs to attend THC2018!

Early Career Researchers:  With support from the University of Manchester Hallsworth Conference Fund, the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research is able to offer Triple Helix Conference and Travel Scholarships to support early career researchers to attend the conference. If currently registered on a full-time doctoral course or you are within 3 years of completing your PhD, and are successful in having your paper or poster accepted for Triple Helix 2018, you will be invited to apply for a scholarship to assist your travel expenses. Following review, we anticipate providing up to 30 scholarships. Our funding does not allow us to cover conference registration costs, but you can register at the discounted student/early career rate.

Carer support: We recognise that child care and other carer responsibilities can constrain conference participation and lead to an under-representation of those with such responsibilities. A number of universities have established support resources address this. At the University of Manchester, the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) has made available a Carer Support Fund for Research Related Professional Development. If an individual’s circumstances are such that they need additional support/care to help them present at the Triple Helix Conference, this Fund can provide additional support for members of the AMBS community on application and review. Presenters coming from outside of the University of Manchester can also apply to the Fund. Many other universities also have carer support and funding available and presenters are encouraged to investigate what opportunities exist in their home school/institution. If other options for child care at or nearby to the conference venue can be identified, we will highlight these on the conference web site.

Call for papers for the Special Issue:  "Agents of change in university-industry-government-society relationships"

Guest-Editors: Prof. Liudvika Leišytė

University-industry-government collaborations and relationships – as theorized by the Triple Helix Model among others – have been analyzed in a plethora of innovation, higher education and STS studies. Most of these studies have focused on national, regional and institutional levels, examining the structures of interaction as well as the formal and informal linkages created in collaborations. More recent elaborations of the helix model have also pointed to the importance of society and societal actors beyond those institutionalized in universities, industry and government. They emphasize the importance of integrating a perspective on the role of the media, publics and civil society actors to understand innovation in knowledge economies. In recent debates, the concept of responsible research and innovation broadens the range of potential actors in innovation. This asks for a deeper understanding of the characteristics of these actors as well as of the mechanisms by which they exert influence over institutional development. Read more

Call for papers - Special issue on:" Financial Resources for SMEs: from Bank Loans to Venture Capitalist Support"

International Journal of Globalization and Small Business

Guest Editors
Dr. Matteo Rossi and Prof. Arturo Capasso, University of Sannio, Italy
Dr. Giuseppe Festa and Prof. Gerardino Metallo, University of Salerno, Italy

The aim of this special issue will be to analyse the main financial resources for SMEs. After the economic-financial crisis of 2007/2008 the relationship between SMEs and conventional investors (banks and other intermediaries) changed. In this new scenario SMEs must enlarge the channels to raise capital. So, new investors and small companies are talking, and in this way it is possible to assist a change in the relations with investors. This trend requires specific studies to understand how SMEs finance their activities today.
