Hello The Ones,

You spoke, we listened. This is the bumper new monthly version of our former weekly note. From now on we'll appear in your inbox but once a month with the 3-5 five mind gems that have our brains all a-fizz. Added bonus - you'll have to only press delete once a month (only joking (we hope (please peruse before you delete (are we sounding too needy? (this is awkward now)))). We do genuinely believe in the power of Just One - in that it takes just one idea, person or design to have an outsize impact on the way we live and thrive in this world. So here we present singular ideas, for singular thinkers and doers - you, that is.

And for The Ones who'd like to deep dive into our previous notes, they are all here or here.

Enjoy!

Listen: 0048 / 0729 from the album Eulogy for Evolution, by Olafur Arnalds. If the ebb and flow of life had a soundtrack, this would be it.

Read: 'To be happy I think you have to be doing something you not only enjoy, but admire. You have to be able to say, at the end, wow, that's pretty cool. This doesn't mean you have to make something. If you learn how to hang glide, or to speak a foreign language fluently, that will be enough to make you say, for a while at least, wow, that's pretty cool.' When choosing what you'd like to learn next, why not let the litmus test for success be how much you impress yourself? From Paul Graham, founder of Y Combinator, read the full essay here.

DISCOVER: It was inevitable, gamifying our ability to focus has arrived. Hold is a fascinating new player in the app space, partnering with businesses to offer rewards to students that spend less time on their mobile devices. It's a simple idea with outsize benefits for boosting productivity and enhancing the learning experience by eliminating distractions. As an ancillary mention, we're currently digging into The Distracted Mind by Adam Gazzaley and Larry Rosen, and Hold seems perfectly timed in light of the science illuminated by this work.

Go: If you're in NY for the next couple of weeks be sure to stop by Story - a pop-up concept that themes its launches and brings together thinkers, brands and creators to bring that idea to life. The latest instalment is focused on the Greek concept of eudaimonia, roughly translated in English to mean 'human flourishing', and how this relates to the future of work. The space is exceptionally curated, with edits by the likes of Beth Comstock and products from The School of Life and Mouse Book Club. The Learner is also available there, if you need to stock up. Located in Chelsea, 144 10th Avenue at 19th Street.
