All Things Google!
This edition of the Digital Learning Newsletter is all about Google!
Over the past decade, Google has made some improvements to the G Suite that enhance and empower learners in a variety of ways. In this edition, we dive into some noteworthy announcements, tools, and tips & tricks to have on your radar as an educator.
Google Calendar received some updates that are worth trying that may help streamline your workflow. Here are few reasons to try the updated Google Calendar.
  • Simplified Appointment Slots Tool is a simple way to mark time on your calendar as free for meetings. It also provides a shareable link that allows others to book an appointment with you during one of those time slots.
  • The New Schedule View can show you and your colleague's calendars side-by-side. Add your coworker's calendars from the left sidebar, then select the Day view from the menu in the top left of Google Calendar. Now, click the checkmark beside your co-worker's calendar, and you can see their schedule side-by-side with your own for that day.
  • Integrated Search allows you to search through everything in G Suite from within Google Calendar.
Improve collaboration in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides with Activity dashboard

An essential part of collaboration is deciding how and when to follow up with others. To help inform these decisions, Google is introducing Activity dashboard in Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides. It’s a feature that lets users with edit access see who has viewed the file and when they viewed it.
Google Keep is one of the best tools for note-taking available, and with the ability to integrate directly into Google Docs it also makes it easy to build documents from notes and web clips quickly.

Just install the Google Keep Chrome extension, and when you find something you want to reference, you can save it as a note to your notebook. Then in Google Docs, click Tools -> Keep Notebook to open your notes in a sidebar. Drag the notes you want into your document to turn them into an outline and get a head start on writing your document.
