Trout Season 2018!
Hello Fly Anglers,

I write this Newsletter while overlooking the Manistee River and 6 inches of fresh snow on the ground. With another 3-5 inches due on Monday it hardly feels like spring is here! However, as she usually does, mother nature will balance this all out. Starting April 17th all subsequent days are expected to be above freezing. Spring will come sooner or later!

Speaking of spring this newsletter has both an article about and a new pattern by Ed McCoy on Hendricksons. They are the first significant mayfly of the season and account for many quality trout in the net in northern Michigan.

This spring the steelhead fishing has been better than it has in recent years. With the current weather pattern I expect that quality fishing for steelhead will continue into early May. We have boats available for steelhead most days between now and May 1st. Call Cherie at 231-228-7135 to book a day or two.

For the first time Jon Ray and Ed McCoy will together host a trip to Argentina for Dorado and other warm water species. They still have a few spots left. See below for the details.

Below you will find a link to an article I wrote regarding the Pine River. The Pine River is unique in Michigan. It's cold, fast and full of wild rainbows and browns. Read the article and if the river intrigues you give Cherie a call and reserve one of our days available.

Have a great Opening Day, enjoy friends and family, the water and the fish. With a good snow season, not too harsh a winter and a cool start to the season we should have a great trout season!

Thanks to all of you that support us and keep us busy on the water. It's the only place we want to be!

Dorado-Biggest and Baddest Fish in Freshwater
I'm excited to announce that Jon Ray and Ed McCoy are going to fish Dorado in Argentina at Parana on the Fly Lodge with my good friends, Andes Drifters. Dorado from 5 to 40 pounds, two other species on dry flies, fishing 8:00 am to dark, this is an anglers dream.

Jon and Ed have four more spots open on this trip. The dates are January 5 to 12, 2019, absolute prime time for all the species available. The cost of the trip is $4750 all inclusive except flights and gratuities.

Watch this video , it will give you a good idea of what a fantastic gamefish Dorado are.

Incredible streamer and dry fly fishing, great food and lodging and warm weather, a great early April combination.

Join Jon and Ed for a fantastic adventure,
Hendrickson, First of the season!

Rusty Spinner Video

Our dry fly guru, Ed McCoy has come up with another universal pattern to solve more than one dry fly problem.

Ed's Rusty Spinner is typical Ed pattern, can be tied in different sizes to imitate different bugs.

Check out Ed'd Rusty Spinner tying instructions on our YouTube Channel.  Give us a follow as well, with more content coming soon.

As I announced awhile back Hawkins Outfitters purchased another guide company and with that picked up more USFS use permits for the PM, Manistee and a Pine tag. That gives us the ability to float customers down the Pine.

Read this article and learn more about why the Pine River should be on all Michigan fly anglers bucket list.
