Well hello there... Rhinopia!
After a couple of weeks of rumors in the area, we can confirm with these awesome shots by our marine biologist Daniel Geary that we do indeed have rhinopia here in Dauin. Still a baby, this weedy rhinopia
(Rhinopias frondosa) hopefully has many friends around. Rhinopias are among the holy grails of macro diving – very rare species within the scorpion fish family. There are 6 different rhinopias and this is the first time one is found here.

A Pelagic experience in Apo Island
Occasionally we are blessed with rare underwater sightings in Dauin and Apo Island and this month was no exception! Dauin and Apo are situated on the southern tip of the Tanon Strait. This is the deepest strait in the Philippines, connecting Negros with Cebu Island. At the end of March, a couple of divers were thankful for the incredible sighting of a whale shark and two hammerheads by Apo Island and just last week, another whale shark was spotted on a dive in Dauin. We’re not saying you’re likely to see one but if you come you never know what you might find!

Join Atmosphere in Palau onboard the Siren
Cruising through the Visayas, the S/Y Philippine Siren of Worldwide Dive & Sail stops by Atmosphere Resorts for some cocktails and a chance for the diving guests to feel some solid ground under their feet. This is the Atmosphere Soup Kitchen
We want to bring you closer to Atmosphere’s ongoing local projects behind the scenes, so this month Giovanni and Claudia from MOU spent some time at our Soup Kitchen. The children are from one of the most impoverished areas in Dumaguete and the aim is direct and simple: Provide one nutritional balanced meal per day to around 80 school children so that they can stay in school. The success of the program is owed to the mothers of the children who volunteer and run the program with our support.

We love – octopus and cuttlefish!
You may have seen our Cephalopod movie with its incredible footage of octopus and cuttlefish, as it has been widely seen by now. We love them so much though, that we decided to publish another one with some of our favorite critters. The cephalopod season is at its best in October-November but we see them all year round and right now we still have lots of sightings of wonderpus and mimic octopus. The footage in this movie is by James Wilkinson

Artisan Bread Making in the Atmosphere Bakery
Artisan bread making - in the making! Bringing you a little taste of the Mediterranean this month, we have had a welcome visit from Manila, teaching the bakery staff how to bake artisan bread. Our bakery staff are now trained to the highest ability to mix, ferment, shape and bake hand crafted bread in our bakery - for guests to enjoy at breakfast, with food and for desserts. So far, the Danish, croissants and pain au chocolats are tasting heavenly!

Did you find the Golden Egg?
We took the Easter Egg hunt one step further this year and hid 9 Golden Eggs on our website. We then asked our website visitors to find as many as they could and send us the screen shots. It wasn’t that easy to find them but five lucky winners received free 1 or 2-night stays at Atmosphere for two guests including breakfast and airport transfers! The lucky winners were:

Study of Visitors to Negros Oriental
Atmosphere Resorts is participating in a study of visitors to Negros Oriental conducted by the Provincial Tourism Unit. Negros Oriental is developing a new Strategic Tourism Plan to guide future tourism actions that directly address visitors’ needs. In turn, better and preferred tourism products will be provided, supporting services enhanced, and transportation infrastructure improved. If you have visited Negros and have five minutes to fil in the survey, you have the opportunity to enter into a draw by the Province for 10,000 Pesos cash and two Cebu Pacific airline tickets.
