May brings a variety of events including an Author Talk by Jody Allen from stayathomemum.com.au, comedian Craig Reucassel gives a in-depth talk about his key learnings from the ABC series, War on Waste, plus celebrate Library and Information Week with us!

BE CONNECTED ONLINE DIGITAL LITERACY WORKSHOPS FOR SENIORS AND OVER 5Os
Discover how being online can add new skills and experiences to your life. Join us and Be Connected for free workshops designed to support and develop your digital literacy and confidence online.
 
Whitehorse Manningham Libraries is now a Be Connected training partner and will be offering free workshops across all our eight library branches. A range of topics including sending emails, how to use Facebook, introduction to the internet, iPad for beginners, introduction to 3D printers and much more will be available during the month of May. LIBRARY AND INFORMATION WEEK 2018
Whitehorse Manningham Libraries will join organisations from Broome to Hobart, celebrating Library and Information Week 2018. Library and Information Week aims to raise the profile of libraries and information service professionals in Australia and showcase the many and varied resources and services that libraries provide to the community.

The theme for Library and Information Week 2018 is Find yourself in a library and we will be celebrating with the following events:

POETRY OFF THE PAGE 
Join Express Media in this program for teens to explore the written and spoken forms of expressing your thoughts and ideas in poetry. Leave with your own collection of poems. BOOK NOW

ATO POP UP BOOTH AT VERMONT STH
Come along and meet the friendly staff from the Australian Taxation Office. Have your questions answered and get hands on demonstrations of the ATO’s online services.

We invite the whole family to come paint and decorate some rocks with us based on your favourite books and characters. We’ll head out around the community to hide them for others to find! Keep an eye on our Facebook to see who’s found your rock and where.

Join Amelia as she guides you through understanding the memory process, memory changes that occur with ageing and what to do if you’re concerned. She will also discuss services available through Dementia Australia.

Come along to learn how to self-publish your manuscript. Learn the tricks of printing, distribution, getting your book into bookstores, and importantly, how to market your book.

CENTRELINK ADVICE - UNDERSTANDING SHARES
Are you interested in investing your hard earned dollars? This session is an introduction to shares. Hear some good advice on how to deal with your shares and get started with a portfolio.

INTERNET AND VIDEO CALLS USING SKYPE, FACETIME & MORE
The beauty of internet allows us to contact loved ones for free!  In this session we will cover: Skype or Facetime, how to find contacts and getting started on these apps.

WAR ON WASTE WITH CRAIG REUCASSEL
In 2017 Craig hosted the War on Waste, a four-part series looking at such issues as fast fashion, food waste, and disposable coffee cups. In this session Craig will take you through his key learnings from this experience and what we can all do to support the War on Waste.

Whitehorse Manningham Libraries are calling on volunteers to assist in the delivery of an outreach program, involving telling stories to adults. This interactive program is run in collaboration with aged care facilities in the cities of Whitehorse and Manningham. For more information please see Story Circle Volunteers on our website. 

HOW TO BOOK

Bookings are essential for most library events, except regular children's programs i.e. storytimes, baby karaoke and lego. Bookings can be made through our events site, or by calling or dropping into one of our branches.
