May News from Coos Sand 'N Sea Quilters

Note From our President

I would like to start by announcing the 2018-2019 Coos Sand 'n Sea board.  Wait, we decided to announce and introduce at the May general meeting.  Please come meet the new board.

I can't believe I have one more meeting as President before I pass the torch. Thank you all for your encouragement and confidence.  It's been a tough year for me but thanks so much for standing by me.

What have you been working on?  What plans do you have for the summer?  Wait, where did the year go?  Fabric is like a prescription but more effective.  It keeps me from needing therapy and I'm pretty confident I'm not the only one.  Touch something quilt and fabric related each and every day.

Help-I misplaced a pattern at the April meeting.  If you happened to pick it up, let me know.  It's a bag/purse with zipper's and cork like fabric on the pattern picture.

Happy quilting my friends

President Melinda
Just a reminder - the Half Nighter on April 28 has been cancelled.  We will try to reschedule at a better time!
Thanks for all the nominations for the 2018/2019 SARA and Featured Quilter.  Ballots will be provided at the April meeting or you can fill in your ballot at home and bring it with you to the meeting.  You can also mail them to us, but make sure it will arrive a few days before the meeting so it can be counted.

We have four nominations for SARA this year:
Lee Howeth, Delaine Nored, Pam Boatright, Jeannie Berger

We have two nominees for our Featured Quilter:
  Sherry Church and Sonja Enlow.
Here is a little information about these talented ladies:

Sherry Church has been sewing since she was a young girl in 4H, and started quilting in the 1980's when she took a class with Nancy Foisy and Cathy McClain.  She says that she loves all techniques of quilting, except for maybe Applique, and she also loves doing Machine Embroidery.  She has shown her quilts at Coos Sand ‘N Sea, Gold Beach Quilt Show, Baycrest Village, Smith Grange and Threads That Bind.   Sherry has been a member of Coos Sand "N Sea for many years.  She has taught classes at Threads That Bind as well as at many RV parks when traveling.  She has made Dignity Bags, as well as participated in making Charity quilts for the guild.  Sherry has plenty of quilts for display at the show, and would be delighted to represent our Guild at the show.

Sonja Enlow says that her sewing passion started in high school home ec (just a few years ago) then started a small sewing business to help other learn to sew in 1989.  When asked about her favorite quilting style she answered- "my mathematical brain slows Eleanor burns chain piecing with log cabin being my favorite (1982 first log cabin project)"  She is a member of Reedsport Quilt guild as well as Coos Sand 'N Sea, and in the past has belonged to Sutherlin BUGs and Rsbg UVQG.  She owned her own small home business from 1989 growing to a 2000 sq ft building in Sutherlin where her main focus was to help others through a project that was overwhelming, and she continues to share at retreats held in bandon or at the Inn At Face Rock.  She is President of Save the Riders Dunes (helping increase tourism to our area through healthy dunes)  and   auxiliary support to Hauser Volunteer Fire Department (husband Jody EMT)  while in sutherlin was coordinator for a quilt with each christmas tree for giving, a project now continuing through the BUGS guild.  For display she has favorites used as display from her shop including quilts made by my grandchildren (each ribbon winners -proud grandma).  Sonya is quite comfortable with talking to the public and would be happy to represent our guild at the show.

From our Vice President:

Wow, what Beautiful weather we have had a few days this week.
Hopefully, Spring is here or just around the corner, I'm Ready.

What a wonderful time we had with Lawry Thorn for the April meeting.
Lawry showed some beautifully fun quilts she had made over the years,
A few times throughout the meeting I remember hearing "Oh, I took that
class or Oh, I remember that one".  It was a lot of fun.

Thank You to all who came out and took Lawry's "Just for Fun" workshop.
I had a wonderful day and it was really a great time getting to know the
ladies in class better as with meetings we don't always get the time to visit.

No workshop or special program for May meeting.  Time to catch up on the
Brown Bag Project as they will be due for sharing and go back to the
owner's at our June meeting. For the UFO's project, you will have
thru the summer to finish up on those.

Hope to see all those finished quilts from the April workshop for
Show and Tell this month

Happy Quilting and remember, "Every quilter has a masterpiece inside"
