AUSSIES 2018 - ITS A WRAP!

Firstly, congratulations to all competitors who competed at the Aussies. Scarborough delivered on all counts with plenty of surf and a tricky shorebreak to challenge even the most experienced surf sports athletes. Special mention to the City of Stirling who showed the rest of Australia that Perth has world class facilities with so much to offer. The Western Australia Police headed up by Sgt Tanner kept the venue safe and free from any major incidents, a challenge given the thousands descending on Scarborough each day.

But it was your club Trigg that put on the greatest show of all wowing the crowds with the best racing of the carnival, thus demonstrating that you can achieve your dreams living local and training local with the right mindset, dedication and coaching team.

So many made finals, a number walked away with an Aussie medal or three! There are a few races that will be etched in peoples memories for a long time:

  • Will Savage U15 retaining his Ironman title;
  • the open mens ski relay with Todd Brewer only a whisker away from taking Gold for his team;
  • Ceris Graham (the most successful open female athlete in WA of the meet) in the open female Ski relay with Shannon Reynolds and Allanah Nicholls; and
  • two of the best ski paddlers in the Southern Hemisphere - Reece Baker and Dan Humble taking out Gold for the second time in the open mens double ski race.

But it was the final race of the day the Open mens taplin that set the crowd on fire. Trigg had 2 teams in the event, an achievement in itself but to take out the Silver in this blue ribbon event with only a run up the beach to separate Trigg from Currumbin was incredible.

This is the best Aussies yet for Trigg. Athletes have excelled, the coaching team has reaped the rewards for their hard work developing the squad and we hope it has inspired others to don the red, green and white to join the rest and take on the Aussies in 2019 on the Gold Coast at Broadbeach SLSC and North Burleigh SLSC.

Thank you volunteers, supporters and sponsors. Together we made history.

STOP PRESS...IRB RACING SEASON COMMENCES IN MAY!!!
Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) racing is an exciting sport that gives surf lifesavers the chance to put their rescue skills to the test.

The purpose of the Inflatable Rescue Boat competition is to not only Improve the skills and technique of IRB drivers and crew, but allow crews to demonstrate their techniques and abilities to perform rescues; bring crews together to discuss and improve IRB techniques and operations; promotes safety awareness techniques for the crew and patients in simulated rescue scenarios; and allows for training and skills maintenance outside of the general surf competition season!

Minimum requirement to compete is current bronze medallion, crew certificate and competition patrol hours – all training will be provided by an experienced surfsports coach.

Training has commenced and is on every Sunday at 7:00am all members are welcome and encouraged to join the team. We need drivers, crew, patients and support personnel.  Contact Steve with any questions – 0412 916 325.
