June Long Weekend Cruise (9-11 June)

The June Long weekend Cruise will be at Bobbin Head with the Sunday BBQ at the picnic area. Anyone who is not able to join us for the cruise can come done by road and meet us for a BBQ lunch at Bobbin Head picnic area.
Pittwater Sail Expo
The Club has devoted the weekend of  28 and 29 April to the Pittwater Sail Expo. Alfreds Cruising will have Nirvanas Kitchen on display as part of the Expo with cruising members on board to answer questions. Come down and say hello or even better bring along someone who is new to cruising and introduce them to cruising at The RPAYC.
Tip of the Month
Tip of the month comes from a member of Alfreds Cruising. As a cruiser you will inevitably anchor quite often at a remote out of the way location. Some of you will have experienced a failure of your anchoring system, either a non-functioning motor or a blown fuse. Do you have a contingency plan in place if this happens to either manually retrieve your anchor or to be able to mark the location of your anchor so it can be retrieved?
Easter saw the first of our night sails to the Harbour. Thirteen boats joined the cruise to Sydney Harbour. Arriving at the harbour around 10pm, on a perfect night, we anchored at Blackwattle Bay. It’s a must do. Morning coffee at Glebe and dinner that night at the Pub. Next day we moved to anchor off Birkenhead Point. The idea was to go to Cockatoo Island to see the biennale. We got a bit distracted and ended up at Birkenhead shopping. Cockatoo had to wait till Sunday.  Cockatoo island is a great place to walk around and this year’s Biennale is well worth the visit. That afternoon we moved anchorage to Store Beach and had a relaxing trip home Monday.
Dangar Island Bowling and Dinner

Back by popular demand was the cruise to Dangar Island with bowling and dinner. Sunday was taken up by a walk around the island and coffee at the café near the wharf. There is a new wharf which makes it very easy to access the island unlike the last time when everyone had to battle through the thick mud at low tide.
Old Timers Race (14 April)

One of the club traditions is for the Old Timers Race . The race is followed by a leisurely lunch. It was a great day on the water with a strong northerly breeze which strengthened as the race  went on.  This year Jim Cormack skippered  Nirvanas Kitchen along with other members of Alfreds Cruising to Victory .  Well done to Jim and team.
First Friday – John and Jan Nicholls “Dreamer of the Day" (Friday  4th May)
After losing two yachts, the first off the coast of Africa and the second on a reef in New Guinea, many friends encouraged Jan and John to write a book of their adventures. Come along and hear their story of love, sailing and adventure. Last bookings 5pm Wednesday 2nd May.
