Thanks, Readers, for
Being the Change!
Dear friends,

The Screwnomics’ launch at Phoenix Books on Bank Street in Burlington was both fun and exciting—and I do mean exciting—driving home to Montpelier in a snowstorm on April 19! Peaco Todd, who collaborated with me on the cartoons, joined me for book signings, and created some wonderful cartoon autographs. We’ll both be on hand to autograph books at Screwnomics’ Hometown Launch at Bear Pond Books, May 1, too. We’ll have cake and soft drinks, and wine and nibbles.

Cary Brown of the Vermont Commission on Women will join us at Bear Pond for an update on what is happening with our state legislature and Change the Story’s efforts to engage businesses in women’s equity. I’m pretty sure no snow is predicted. We would so love to see you there, or at other upcoming readings.

What made Phoenix so special was the audience engagement: great questions and comments. That will be MY favorite part at Bear Pond. We’ve only just started the reading tour, but guess what? We just ordered a second printing, already out of books. Our print runs are small, but it’s selling much faster than my publisher expected, and it’s so gratifying to see women’s enthusiasm. Really? You WANT to read about economics?? I’m getting delightful messages from new readers, including many who want to start book groups where they live—in Michigan, New Jersey, and even in Spain.

And I’m finding that men also get it. Most of my radio interviews have been with men, and they ask great questions. They seem pleased to hear a woman naming what is generally not talked about in American mainstream economics. Screwing is not a woman’s word, but rather a male vernacular. To be “screwed” is to be made “female,” whatever your gender or sexual preference. To be screwed is to be intimately used against your will by someone who cares nothing about you. But where did these old money ideas come from??

Let’s talk!

Until soon,
Rickey

Our new friend Abbie Tycocki came to Phoenix Books to say she was learning something new on every page. She bought four copies as Mother's Day gifts for the women in her family!

Hope to hear you during one of the listener call-ins!

The Lions and Lambs

Gross National Happiness: Ginny and Paula's Long Haul Pursuit!
