Te Mātāuru: Investments
Both the Mātaatua and Te Waipounamu investment rounds are still open. Te Waipounamu will close at 5pm on Monday the 14th of May 2018 and Mātaatua will close at 5pm on Friday the 18th of May 2018. Once each of the investment rounds close the Pae Motuhake for these clusters will meet to assess all applications and make recommendations to the full Te Mātāwai Board.

Both the Te Tai Hau-ā-uru and Te Tai Rāwhiti investment rounds closed earlier this month. A total of 54 applications were received and applicants are currently being advised of the outcome of their application.
The contracts regarding the Tainui investment round are now complete. There were three key activity areas that emerged from investments in Tainui including language planning, wānanga reo and resource development. |

Finally, Te Mātāwai would also like to advise descendants within the Te Tai Tokerau and Te Arawa clusters that these investment rounds will open soon. Both clusters investment plans have been approved by the board of Te Mātāwai. Announcements regarding the opening of these rounds will be made in the coming weeks. In the meantime please register in anticipation of these rounds opening if you haven’t already done so.

Te Mātātupu: Research
Te Mātāwai and the New Zealand Council for Education Research (NZCER) are still collecting information for a free te reo Māori database through an online survey. We would like to hear from people who have organised, participated in, or funded activities or developed resources to support te reo Māori revitalisation.
This online survey called He Reo Ora was launched at the end of February 2018 and was due to close in April 2018, but this will now remain open until Sunday 20th May 2018 to give more people a chance to complete the survey.
From the responses received so far, activities outnumber resources three to one. The activities are diverse, spanning some for groups of fewer than 10 people through to ones for more than 1000.

Te Matatū: Leadership & Monitoring
Te Mātāwai is committed to supporting the Crown to complete the Maihi Karauna. Under section 19 of Te Ture mō Te Reo Māori 2016, Te Mātāwai has a function to provide advice on the development of the Maihi Karauna.

And so far we have provided advice through a number of forums including Te Rūnanga Reo (29 November 2016, 27 June 2017), Te Papa Kōrero (22 June 2017, 30 August 2017 & 29 March 2018) and at both a Senior Officials and Board levels.

Te Mātāwai looks forward to continuing discussions with the Ministers at the next Te Rūnanga Reo. This will be the first Te Rūnanga Reo held with the current Government and Ministers of the Crown as we work to ensure that Te Whare o Te Reo Mauri Ora is leveraged in a way that creates opportunities for Māori language revitalisation.
