Founded in 1981, the Baroque Music Festival presents five concerts over eight days every June in the Southern California communities of Corona del Mar and Newport Beach. Festive pre-concert music is performed al fresco starting 45 minutes prior to each performance, and afterward there is a wines and waters reception where performers and audience members may mingle.

Artistic Director Elizabeth Blumenstock has programmed this year’s five concerts with the focus on French Baroque composers, Bach, Handel, and more. Orchestral concertos, solo sonatas, Jonathan Dimmock’s Bach Organ Recital on Monday June 18, and Handel’s opera Orlando are just some highlights. Among the Baroque instruments you will see and hear this year are the delicate viola da gamba, the warm-toned early oboe, and the rousing natural horn. A feast for eyes and ears!

We have added two Artist Interviews to this year’s advance Festival information. Elizabeth Blumenstock got together with Festival soloists Josefien Stoppelenburg (Handel’s Orlando, June 24) and Jonathan Dimmock (Bach Organ Recital, June 18) to discover more about their lives “behind the notes”.

Exclusively available in this newsletter are links to these “mini-views” for you to read on screen or print off as you prefer. Click on the artist photos directly below to access the interviews. We hope you find them as fascinating to read as we did.

“Josefien - which came first, your love of music and singing, or of visual arts and painting?”

Josefien Stoppelenburg - soprano and fine artist

“Jonathan - what is the most compelling thing you are involved in outside of performance?”

organist Jonathan Dimmock
