Summer Camp 2018
Vol. 2

...and more!

Banana Kelly's 2018 Summer Camp is off to an amazing start. The first week was filled with exciting trips, activities and events, including a visit to the New York Botanical Garden, Yoga classes, and attending a production at the Marionette Theatre (pictured above).

The Banana Kelly Summer Camp continues to be a popular program for area children and their families and if you have not done so already, we hope that you will be able to support the Camp as well as our growing-in-demand After School program.  Combined, these two programs comprise our Youth Educational Program (YEP).  Our camp, along with our After School program, are vital compliments to the work we do assisting South Bronx families gain access to affordable housing and provision of targeted social services.

We cannot provided these programs without your help.  As you know your support enables us to offer our South Bronx young people a means to spend their summer and after school hours in a fun and creative learning environment.  If you would like, you may target your tax deductible YEP donation directly to the newly established Barry S. Milberg Summer Camp Scholarship fund. This fund was created late last year in memory of our very good friend Barry Milberg to provide scholarships to cover the cost of the Summer Camp for area families who do not have the financial ability to send their child/children to camp. A report on the number of 2018 summer camp scholarships will be provided in our next Update.

We are very happy to report that we are very close to reaching our goal of raising $50,000 to cover the cost of our 2018 Summer Camp and to assist in our growing After School program.  As of this writing, thanks to the generosity of those listed below, we have raised over $42,800!

Congratulations to Sajata Epps!!!
We are so please to offer our congratulations and best wishes to Sajata Epps, Independent Artist, who received a fellowship from the Asian Culture Council for a two-month Individual Fellowship to engage with artists, colleagues and community members in Hong Kong and Taipei to research sustainability solutions in various fields of study.

And last year Sajata published her book, The Natural Knitting Project, Community Exhibit, in which Sajata reveals a natural way to color thread by using organically grown plants.

Banana Kelly in the News!  At the recent RGB Bronx Public Hearing, Banana Kelly was definitely in the house and two of our members gave impassioned testimony at the hearing. Below are two news stories covering the action that took place - Bronx12 and New York1.
