Friends of Glen Providence Park is proud to be helping the Chester-Ridley-Crum Watersheds Association (CRC) with their 21st Annual Streams Cleanup! CRC volunteers will remove trash at more than 30 sites along Chester, Ridley, and Crum Creeks and their tributaries, including Broomall’s Run in Glen Providence Park. Please register at crcwatersheds.org.

We'll have trash bags, gloves, and delicious coffee from Seven Stones Cafe! If you would like to help clean the stream itself, wear waterproof boots or shoes that can get wet. For more details & logistics, click here

The Grand White Oak update...

White Oak stump and sleddingAfter this spring's Nor'easters felled so many trees in the park,  we were incredibly grateful that Delaware County Parks & Recreation considered our request to preserve the standing portion of the hollow White Oak as a natural playhouse - it is fantastic!!! A tremendous thank you to County Parks and to the crew of James Rogan Landscaping for doing a phenomenal job clearing the hillside and preserving part of this beloved tree. There have even been "art drops" at the White Oak, with local artists leaving free pottery in the tree!

...& Canopy Tree Plantings!

Earth Day plantingsIn honor of Earth Day, community volunteers, elementary school students, and local government officials worked together to plant seven native trees on the sledding hill in Glen Providence Park. This was part of succession planning for the loss of the White Oak and future trees - we hope the new saplings will grow to be the grand shade trees for future generations!

Thank you to The Rotary Club of Media, Media Providence Friends School students and teachers, Delaware County Council, and Delaware County Parks & Recreation for planting trees and celebrating Earth Day with Friends of Glen Providence Park this Wednesday!

Media Rotary initiated the project, and the Media Rotary Foundation and Gundaker Foundation funded the trees and deer fencing. Many more volunteers and businesses helped with the project - you can read more about the project and see fun photos on our website!

We had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day Geology Walk, and coming up is a Spring Bird Walk on May 5, a Kids Stream Walk on June 16 (registration will be required!) and we'll be announcing our summer concert schedule soon. We now have our 2018 Schedule of Events bookmarks available at our entrance kiosks and around town - don't forget to mark your calendars for upcoming volunteer days and nature walks! As always, you can Follow us on facebook and our website to stay posted.

Happy Earth Day - enjoy the park!
