Message from the PTA

Hello North Davis Families,

Last week was Friendship Week - and it was a great success! I hope you were able to read some of the chalk expressions about friendship and positivity scattered across our blacktop. And if you happened to be still hanging around after morning drop off, you may have heard our students staying "Good Morning" to their classmates over the PA system in Arabic, Chinese, French, Korean, and many, many other languages - it was wonderful to hear!

"Everybody has the Power of Yet!"

The General PTA meeting will be THIS TUESDAY, April 24th, 7pm in the MPR. The vote on next year's board will take place. If you are interested in getting involved at the board level, please let me know! If you have ideas for next year's PTA activities, come join the meeting and help shape the year to come. We will also have important updates on school climate, school site and facilities planning, and an introduction to a new school-wide positive behavior system being adopted next year. Come learn more!

It's a full week of PTA activities. This Friday April 27 is a PTA-hosted Family Movie Night at 6 PM in the MPR. The movie is the Book of Life and will be shown for FREE!
  • There will be dinner (pizza and veggies), drinks, popcorn, and baked goods for sale before and during the movie.  All proceeds support our school.
  • Everyone is welcome, so please bring the whole family and friends to share dinner and a movie at school. Kids are welcome to bring pillows, blankets or camp chairs to get cozy. Regular tables and chairs will be available as well.
  • Please help make this new event a success by marking your calendars now. Please click here for the sign-up genius to help volunteer to set up for this fun, free, family-friendly event.
As always, reach out to me at sophiejavers(at)gmail.com if you have any comments, ideas, concerns. My (email) door is always open.
Have a wonderful week!
Sophie Javers, PTA President, mom to boys  - Cullen (5th grade) and Cormac (1st grade)

FOCUS ON FITNESS

This is the point in the year where our T/K and Kindergarten programs diverge.

The T/K students continue to work on developing specific gross motor skills using mostly indoor equipment. Over the last two weeks they have explored jumping over and from various objects, including a jump box. Students have worked together to toss and catch a bean bag while balancing on a air disk. And finally they have practiced using walking stilts as they balance and move around the outdoor track.

The Kindergarten students’ activities move outdoors as they learn the recess areas they will use next year as 1st graders. Over the last two weeks, students have explored various locations on the blacktop. They learned the rules and explored the upper body play structure, playing a game called, “Hot Lava Monster”. They also learned a new tag game called High Five Tag.

Grades 1-3 were able to be outside and enjoy the following over the last two weeks:

Students played two tag style games called Car Lot and Sharks & Minnows. They continued to work on Ga-ga Ball on the blacktop, working together as a team to keep a ball bouncing within a circle. Students LOVE the Crab Soccer game where they are in crab position while kicking a LARGE ball and attempting to get it away from their side and over the heads of their opponents’ sides of a square playing space. This game works upper body and core strength/endurance while working together as a team. Finally, students played a variation of Steal the Bacon with soccer balls as they worked on dribbling skills.

Our intermediate students (grades 4-6) are now working on our spring skill-based units. These include: Volleyball, Track and Field, and Soccer. These three units will continue through the remainder of the school year.

Jump Rope Club meets on Wednesdays at lunch.
Please MARK YOUR CALENDARS – Wednesday, May 30th 10:30-11:00 is our whole school ASSEMBLY. If students are interested in participating in the assembly they NEED to come during lunch recess on Wednesdays over the next two weeks to make sure they are signed up and getting feedback about their routines.

Calling all NDE Community Members!
Let your voices be heard!

The PTA is asking for your feedback and ideas on all of our PTA activities, as well as how we can expand/diversify fundraising efforts to continue our programming at North Davis Elementary. It is essential to constantly reassess the priorities and needs of our NDE community and this survey is an important way for the PTA to collect your thoughts!

Please do take a moment to respond to this survey. It will take 5 minutes or less of your time, but your input will be lasting, as it helps guide the PTA in planning and programing for the rest of this year and the next.

Click here to access the survey and share your ideas.

If you haven't yet, there's still time to sign up for our Active4Me Scanning Program!
Please consider signing up your children for our Active4Me bike scanning program.  Each time your children walk or bike to school, they will be scanned in by our friendly volunteers.  You may have seen them scanning kids in at the lunch tables in the morning!  The scan will send a text message or email to you,
to let you know that your children arrived to school safely, and will tally how many times they've walked or biked, plus the cumulative miles they've logged for the school year.  Incentives and prizes are given out throughout the year to encourage the kids to keep scanning.

Do you live too far away for your children to bike to school?  With the earlier start time at Davis High School, traffic is pretty heavy on 14th St.  Please consider dropping your children off on F St, at the end of 14th, or at the Davis Arts Center, and having them walk to school from there.  This still qualifies for bike scanning!

Stop by the lunch tables in the morning between 8-8:30, or in the office to pick up an Active4Me permission slip.  You can also download the form on the North Davis Elementary School website and drop it off in the office once you've completed it.  Find more information here: https://northdavis.active4.me
