The evenings are longer, the weather is getting warmer so it is a great time for paddling. The summer events are starting soon with festivals, events, competitions and courses so there are lots of opportunities to enjoy your sport. National Go Canoeing Week is the 26th May – 2nd June. Contact your local club and provider to take part in the events during the week, there is more information below.

CANI Membership
Please remember if you have not renewed your 2018 membership you need to do so to avail of the rights of a member. Membership must be in place to take part in club activity, to attend events and to be covered by the CANI / British Canoeing Insurance. To renew or take out a new membership click here

CANI AGM
The CANI AGM will take place at the Belfast Boat Club at 7.30pm on the 20th June 2018. More information to follow soon.
 
Recognition awards
The CANI recognition awards aim to recognise the good work of volunteers within canoeing, without which a large majority of our sport would not take place. The cut-off date for nominations is the 29th April. For full details of the awards Click here
 
GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force on the 25th May 2018, replacing the existing data protection framework under the EU Data Protection Directive. The regulations will affect all organisation including clubs and providers if you are keeping information that can be used to identify an individual. CANI is preparing for the new regulations and we encourage you to do the same. There is a lot of information on line and in addition to this we have prepared some advice to help you with the process.
 
CANI and Erne Paddlers Partnership Courses for April and May 2018
Paul Harrington as Club and Workforce Officer West, has developed and set up a number of courses through Erne Paddlers which are open to the public and CANI/club members. Further information on all these courses can be found here
 
2018 Recreational Paddles
CANI recreational paddles are suitable and open to all! From first timers to competing professionals, we see individuals, families, clubs and paddlers of all ages and abilities taking part. You can take in the views from a different perspective and see wildlife you wouldn’t normally experience. These social paddles offer perfect opportunities to get to know other paddlers making them ideal for individuals but also lots fun for the whole family. They are a great way of getting outdoors, so dust down your boat and come and join us! If you don’t have a boat, open canoes and kayaks are available to hire from CANI. 2018 National Go Canoeing Week – 26th May – 2nd June

National Go Canoeing Week is an annual campaign, aiming to raise the profile of the sport, at a national level and encourage as many people as possible to pick up a paddle and get out on the water! For further information read on.

Ulster Canoe Festival
This year’s Ulster Canoe Festival will be held at the Share Discovery Village from 31st August to 2nd September. The Festival is fast becoming one of the best open canoe events in Europe, with several top coaches already confirmed for this year. The weekend will be packed with sessions for paddlers of all abilities with opportunities to improve your skills or try something new. Hōu Canoes are sponsoring the event again, so there will be opportunities to try their demo boats, including the new lightweight Brooks designs. Click here for details.

Governing Body Coach Development Assistance Programme
Mid Ulster Council is offering Sport NI recognised Sports Governing Bodies 50% support towards the hire of Mid Ulster Councils facilities when being used for coach development. For further information on how your club could access the 50% support, read on....

Success at the under 18 British Club Canoe Polo Championships
Ulster are National Champions for second consecutive year! A glorious weekend of sunshine and very competitive canoe polo at The British National Championships in Nottingham 21st-22nd April. 2 Ulster 18 teams and our Ladies team played some fierce matches but fought each game to the very end; they all did exceptionally well. Ulster U18 finished 1st place as U18 national champions! Ulster B placed 6th and Ulster ladies placed 5th. Well done to all involved!
