Provincial Government Proclaims Sexual Violence Awareness Month

Today ten ministries in the government of Alberta came together and made a commitment to address sexual violence in the province.

Premier Rachel Notley also proclaimed May as Sexual Violence Awareness Month #SVAM.

This is a historic day because Sexual Violence can and will only be addressed if we all come together and take action.

This commitment shows that our government understands that addressing sexual violence will not only benefit survivors, but this commitment means healthy and safe communities for every Albertan.

From here on in, every May, Albertans will hear about the importance of ending sexual violence, steps you can take as individuals so that every member of our province can be healthy and safe. The 12 sexual assault centres in Alberta have awareness raising activities planned throughout the whole month of May - see event listing below.

"Together, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, we will keep working in support of survivors, in support of all Albertans, until one day we live in an Alberta that is free from sexual violence," Deb Tomlinson, CEO of AASAS.
