Don't Miss the 38th Annual Ethnic Festival and World Languages Day on Saturday, May 5 at Julian Middle School! The theme for this year's event is "Celebrate Diversity: The heART of Who We Are."  The day will kick off with a parade at 10 am and continue until 4pm at Julian with musical performances, hands-on activities, dance, art workshops and more. Please click here for additional details.
What is Equity and what should it look like in D97 schools? The School Board of District 97 has drafted an equity policy. They would like the schools’ and community’s input on the draft. Plan to attend a Community Discussion, May 3 at 7 pm at Julian Middle School, to hear from a D97 School Board Member about the policy and how you can contribute your ideas. 
8th Graders Need Our Help! The Glow Party is Fast Approaching on Saturday, May 12 and They Need Parent Volunteers:

Parents of 8th graders: even if your child has forbidden you from helping during the dance, please consider helping with decorations and donations.
Parents of 6th and 7th graders: pay it forward by helping out during the dance this year.  Many of the partygoers have forbidden their parents from helping out during the party, so you are very much needed.

Please sign up here to make this event a success for our out going 8th grade class. Tickets will be on sale during 8th grade lunch May 9, 10 and 11 and are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.  
Open Positions on the 2018/19 PTO Board!  Here is your chance to get more involved at Julian! Take a look at the Open PTO Board Positions for school year 2018/19.  It's a great way to meet parents, teachers and staff as your child moves through middle school.  Email us at PTOJulian@gmail.com if you are interested or know of another parent you would like to nominate. We are a volunteer organization, and we rely on the helping hands and shared ideas of parents and staff members to keep things moving forward.  
Purchase a Tile Today and be a Part of the OPEF Mosaic Mural at Julian!  The Oak Park Education Foundation is teaming up with Julian Middle School and renowned mosaic muralist Tracy VanDuinen to create a design honoring Percy Julian, scientist, civil rights activist and Oak Park resident.  Registration and details here.  Note, deadline for purchasing a mosaic tile is Friday, May 25. 
Don't Forget About Music Camp! This D97 music program runs through Monday, July 30 - Friday, August 3. Please click here for details and registration information. Questions may be directed to Mr. Kanwischer and/or Mr. Seymour.  
Housing Forward is in Need of Travel Sized Toiletries all year long.  If you have any unopened soaps, shampoos, conditioners and other travel items, please have students drop them off in Room C320 or in the mailbox. Questions can be directed to Ms. Saunders. Thank you for your support!

Community Information
Concordia Ultimate Camps are for ages 9-17. Camp #1: July 2 – 6 ( No camp on July 4 ),  1-3 pm each day.  Camp #2: August 6 - 10, 10 am- 12 pm each day.  Registration and details can be found here. Questions? Contact Mr. Seymour.

Teen Arts Pass (TAP) is a new initiative by Urban Gateways that gives young people ages 13-19 access to $5 tickets to see professional dance, music, and theater performances in and around Chicago.  Click here for more details. 
Help Out Holmes Elementary School by Donating Boxes.  As Holmes goes through a major renovation and expansion, classrooms will have to be packed up. Please drop off boxes at the school office at 508 N. Kenilworth Avenue (during the school week until 4pm) through the end of May.
🧐Want Your Kids to Try Coding? Code Play Learn and Oak Park Public Library are partnering to provide 4 classes for kids K-8th Grade on Sat.
