Your Pro Bono Services Helps Make Our Local Community Better
Shortly, you will be receiving a letter from the President of our Board of Directors, Chris Sprysenski, asking you to consider volunteering your legal talents and time to represent an economically disadvantaged client or educate a group of vulnerable residents in a legal topic or write an article for our monthly newsletter or provide a monetary contribution to support our mission. All donated services or monetary contributions stay in Seminole County and helps improve the quality of life of our residents. We are your local legal aid program.
Here is just a few examples of how our pro bono attorneys help improve the lives of the residents of our community every month:
A pro bono attorney travels to the local Goodwill office to teach a class to vulnerable attendees who face barriers to employment because of an unfortunate mistake which lead to a criminal record. The attorney informs the attendees of the process of sealing and expunction of an eligible crime.
Several pro bono attorneys travel to the Casselberry public library to provide legal advice to Veterans with their civil legal issues.
A Pro Bono Attorney presents a Judicial Awareness class at the Casselberry Probation Office during their Life Skills-Career Readiness Program helping participants successfully complete probation.
Pro bono attorneys provide one time only consultation concerning family law matters at their office or at the legal aid office.
Pro bono Attorney represents a disadvantaged client with a civil legal matter.
Upcoming pro bono opportunities for group presentations:
Early May, make a presentation to staff of several group homes concerning education law and best practices to help advocate for academic success of the foster youth assigned to their group home.
In July, make a presentation to another group on education law and best practices to help advocate for academic success of their assigned foster youth.
Our staff attorneys are also busy at work. Helping a vulnerable veteran and his dog contest a wrongful eviction. Fighting for a foster youth, who is failing high school, get the academic support needed for academic success. Obtaining child support for a victim of domestic violence and her children. Helping an elderly resident obtain his security deposit. Helping a family obtain guardianship over their impoverished adult child involved in a terrible accident. Helping a grandparent get temporary custody of grandchildren abandoned by their parents hooked on opioids.
There are many ways to help. Other alternatives are listed in the new edition of Florida Bar Journal this month.
