I often get questions about glue and which type is best to use in lutherie. Sometimes I even get the statement that hide glue is the best glue tonally for an instrument. While hide glue may offer some tonal advantages I must say that I have heard some terrible sounding guitars built with hide glue and some great sounding guitars built with our modern PVA glues. Obviously there is more contributing to the overall tonal properties of an instrument than just the glue used to make that instrument.
Many years ago I talked about glues suitable for use in lutherie in my popular Luthier Tips du Jour video series. I did a two part video that will give you enough information to at least make an educated decision about which glue or glues you might want to use while building. I am including the links to those two videos below. If you decide to experiment with hide glue,  I am also including a video on that subject as well. These videos go back almost 10 years to the time when I was still teaching  college level lutherie courses in Colorado. My how time flies!  I hope you enjoy the videos. Happy Building!
