Edition 159

Just a few quick bits this week.

Please can all managers check through their age group rules carefully before each game and ideally have a copy with you in case you need to refer to them.  Don't forget to check the result reporting at the bottom too as we will be strict on that this year.

I was at a number of games over the long weekend and saw a few examples of rules not being followed. I don't want to be overly officious about the rules, but they are there for a reason. 8 a side means 8 a side not 10 because you have a big squad.  30 metre boundaries means 30 metre boundaries.

With all cancelled games, please can managers/organisers be helpful and considerate with getting it replayed. When offering 3 additional dates please offer a spread of days of the week, months, etc. Don't forget dates not updated inside 7 days will result in the game being marked as Cancelled and points deducted so please re-arrange these games quickly.  We are only planning to offer concession wins for extreme situations this year in an attempt to improve on the 75% matches played rate from 2017. We should be playing 90%+ of games in a good dry summer and I would appreciate all clubs making extra efforts to be flexible to get matches on for the sake of the kids.

Under 12s managers please remember to add the umpire's report for every game too. Our Play-Cricket administrator Graham Beck may be in touch about this.

For those age groups with multiple league entries, please have a think about your team selection. I would like to move to fewer restrictions on who can play where for 2019, but this will require manager co-operation. For the Academy leagues, feel free to pick whoever you want but for the WSYCL and Development leagues we expect to see players appropriate to that standard. If you're not sure on a player then they are probably too strong.

On the positive, I have seen some good close games this year and more coloured clothing than we have seen before too which is great. The kids clearly enjoy the coloureds and I think this is something we can expand on more fully for 2019.

I am lso very pleased to see more teams scoring electronically.  Every game I saw over the weekend had at least one team on the app. Great news all round.

Finally we have negotiated a £25 discount for clubs on the fantastic cricket coaching mat, a "must have" for any clubs with a junior section. To take advantage of the offer please email Dave at his address below
