Hi there,

With The Art of Work 2.0 coming up, it made sense to move this newsletter to a new home. We'll be tweaking this newsletter on the go, so feedback is welcome and stay tuned :)

Back to the usual: in this issue we bring you a manual on life (just like that), some tips to make your job posts more inclusive, advice from a Venture Capitalist on how to build big, ambitious things and last but not least: how to foster a culture of experimentation within your company.

Enjoy!

Team Homerun

ps. We'll host a session on how to find and attract talent at The Next Web conference in Amsterdam. Keep an eye on their line-up for the exact location and time. Hope to see you there!

Our recommendations

Life according to Scott Galloway

LIFE

Happiness &
the Gorilla

— Gartner L2
Professor in marketing Scott Galloway presents his view on life. Not that he has any academic credibility or credentials that indicate he should counsel people on how to live their lives, but in his own words: "Like that’s going to stop me." A bold, funny and sometimes controversial view on how to live your life.

HIRING

Why women (and men) really don’t apply for your job

— Tech Inclusion

Research has shown that when seeing job requirements presented in a bulletpoint list, less women apply. Most women only apply when they meet 100% of the list, while men are already likely to apply when they can meet 60% of the requirements. Read on for more tips on how to write up your job requirements in a more inclusive way.

GROWTH

Keep the degree of difficulty down

— AVC
A great reminder from VC Fred Wilson: keep difficulty down. Pick something simple to execute, nail it, then build on it with another relatively simple move, nail that too, and keep going. If you look back in a few years, it will look like a reverse triple somersault with two twists in pike, but you will have done it by doing the easier things perfectly thousands of times instead of the hard thing just once.

CULTURE

Fostering a culture of experimentation

— Medium
"Design like you're right. Test like you're wrong." A peek inside Skyscanner's workflow and how they managed to let experimentation be a vital part of their company culture. It's the perfect proof that experimenting isn't only for teams the size of a small start-up.
