Interim Dean's Message
As we prepare the Baker School of Business for the transition in leadership to our new dean at the end of June, I realize that it has been a challenging, yet enjoyable seven months. Taking over as interim dean allowed me the opportunity to step out of my faculty role and back into the role of an administrator. While there are certain aspects of being “the dean” that are extremely enjoyable — long-term strategic planning, meeting alumni and potential donors, and working with a great administrative team — I am really looking forward to getting back in the classroom and doing what I love most, teaching.
So many people have pitched in to help move our school forward during the transition. In addition to having our next Dean join us at the end of next month, we have hired five new tenure-track faculty who will join us in August.

The Citadel Celebrates Graduation
Approximately 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets walked across the stage to accept their diplomas and be congratulated by Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa in McAlister Field House on the morning of Saturday, May 5. Rosa also served as the keynote speaker for the ceremony. His speech was one of his final public acts in his role as president after joining his alma mater in 2006; he retires at the end of June.

BSB Says Goodbye to
Several Faculty &
Staff Members
Four faculty members will be retiring from the Baker School of Business on June 30. They include: Dr. Sheila Foster, Dr. Janette Moody, Dr. William Sharbrough and Dr. Don Sparks. Together, they have taught a total of 114 years at The Citadel. Each one has been an asset to our faculty.
Dr. Sheila Foster
Dr. Sheila Foster began teaching at The Citadel in 1992. She served as a professor of accounting teaching Introduction to Financial Accounting, Introduction to Managerial Accounting and Accounting for Executives.

Dr. Tracy Rishel Leaving the Faculty
Dr. Tracy Rishel, Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management, has accepted a position within the motor sports industry and will leave us on June 30. Tracy joined the faculty in 2015 and taught both operations management and statistics courses. She also was a faculty co-advisor for the mini-baja project. Tracy has been a valuable addition to our faculty, and we wish her the best of luck in the future.

The BSB Graduates
its First Class of
Accounting Majors
For the first time in its history, the Baker School of Business awarded degrees in accounting at its SCCC commencement exercise. Accounting became a major last fall.
The graduates completed a rigorous schedule of seven upper level accounting courses and a commercial law course in addition to their other BSB requirements during their junior and senior years.

Students Compete in the National Mini-Baja Competition
This year, The Citadel’s Mini-Baja team competed in Mechanicsville, MD among 100 cars. Seven students attended, six from mechanical engineering and one from business. They included:
