Introduction to Teaching Techniques
In order to maintain the highest standard of skills and learning in teaching techniques for the instructors in our international and local training centers, the Introduction to Teaching Techniques (FTI 1000) course has incorporated new instructional strategies and content that consider theory and practice for teaching adults. Crucial to the success of the approach to learning and training in our local training centers is the need for proficiency in the use of both the FTI Learning Management System, and basic Microsoft programs such as Word and PowerPoint.  During this introductory course, students will experiment with a blended learning approach by using the available technology to complete homework and preparatory assignments and then using the class time to discuss theory and demonstrate practical use of technology. Students are immediately introduced to presentation skills and put them into practice by delivering several mini presentations in the first 2-3 days of class. They discuss how personalities influence the learning environment; how diversity issues affect communication and have an impact on learning and training; and will take a self-assessment quiz to determine his or her own training style. The end-of-course task-oriented lesson will help the instructors-in-training put into practice the theory and skills learned by building a lesson plan, and presenting a model for teaching a task. Each participant receives their own copy of The Trainer’s Handbook by Karen Lawson. The next course offering, in succession, is FTI 1001 Teaching Techniques for Adults. This course is also under revision and will be released in July during the next scheduled class.
