Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!

And as Christ has risen so has the prospect of Spring.  The flowers are blooming, the grass has greened, and shoots of various kinds have emerged from the soil.  The waters of the rainy season have truly “watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout…” (Isaiah 55)

Of course, as the earth sprouts so will follow a wealth of fruits, vegetables and grains.  We, in this area, are blessed to be surrounded by the literal fruits from the earth, and in the coming weeks and months as the growing season progresses in earnest, our fields and farmer’s markets will be filled with a blessing of produce.

We, as the Body of Christ, are invited to rejoice in this blessing as we rejoice in all the blessings of God’s creation. We are also called to be mindful of the ways in which we are truly blessed, and we are further called to be additionally mindful of those who are not as blessed as we.  So then, as we rejoice in the verdant growth around us, we are just the same called to remember those who do not have such abundance, and those for whom the earth is barren and unyielding.

To that end the ELCA is constantly working to relieve the burden of hunger for all those who suffer it, and specifically as we, in this congregation, and people in congregations across the country prepare for the Youth Gathering this summer the ELCA has called us all to be aware of this effort.  ELCA World Hunger is working on a Youth-led drive called the Global Farm Challenge, supporting that challenge will be a significant part of Youth Gathering this summer, and is something that we can all participate it even now. https://www.elca.org/globalfarmchallenge

In this and in so many other ways we are given the opportunity to express our mindfulness and our gratitude for our own blessings.  I encourage you to explore the Global Farm Challenge and the ways in which it directs our love for neighbor and our call to, as we have promised in our baptismal covenant,  “Care for others and the world God made…” and to join the youth of this congregation, as they continue to explore how they can be responsive to the ways that God is calling them as they prepare for the excitement of the Youth Gathering.

PEACE

Summer Worship
We will be switching to single services over the Summer months.
9:30 am worship will begin June 17th.
In case you missed it in Pastor Valerie's Article:

The first learning opportunity Turning West is offering us is a 3 hour workshop on Conflict Utilization.  There will be two sessions offered on Sunday, May 20.  The first will begin at 1pm and end at 4pm.  The second will begin at 5pm and end at 8pm.  A meal will be provided at each.  We anticipate that the first time slot will fill up first so we ask that you choose to attend the later workshop if you are able.  Please click on this link to sign up and do not worry, there will be other ways to sign up for those who do not get Vistas via email or are unable to navigate the link.  That information will be available at worship on Sunday.

Spring is Here!!!

The Flower Calendar is available in the narthex as you enter the church.  It is arranged so that you can provide flowers for Sunday services and celebrate those special events like birthdays, anniversaries, retirements or in memory of loved ones .
The cost is $54.00 for both vases or two members can share the cost and provide their remembrance for $27.00 each.  After church is finished you can take a lovely arrangement home.
This is a wonderful way to remember those special times.

This performance has been dedicated to the memory of Bob Harvey.
We Are Invited to Participate in ELCA  Inter-Religious Statement

The ELCA invites Mt Carmel along with all the other congregations of the ELCA to join in responding to the draft church-wide statement, “A Declaration of our Inter-Religious Commitment”, a proposed statement to be voted on at the Church Assembly in the summer of 2019.
The draft statement was proposed by Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton and prepared by a task force of church leaders for review by individuals and congregations and will be finalized in time for the 2019 Assembly.  At Mt Carmel, the Adult Education Team will present several Adult Forums beginning May 13 to study the draft together and assist individuals to complete the on-line survey accompanying the statement by the deadline, June 30, 2018.
The 18-page statement presents a theological and practical framework for common ELCA inter-religious policy and practices.  If approved, it will form the guidance for all ELCA churches, synods, and organizations for inter-religious actions.  For those interested in more information, the draft and on-line survey are available at ELCA.org/inter-religious statement.   Printed copies of the statement and survey will also be available at the Adult Forums.
For questions or more information, contact any member of the Adult Education Team.
Stephen Ministry: Who is it for?

We all experience challenges in life, times when we could benefit from the care and support of a Christian friend. A Stephen Minister can provide the emotional and spiritual care we need when faced with a crisis or challenge.

Stephen Ministers are equipped to provide support through Tough Times such as ...

- Loss of a loved one through death or divorce
- Serious illness of self or family member
- Recovery after accident or disaster
- Job crisis, relocation, change of family living situation
- Loneliness, spiritual crisis, or discouragement

Could you benefit from the confidential, one-on-one care and support of a Stephen Minister? Do you know someone else, in or outside of our congregation (perhaps a friend, neighbor, or relative) who could benefit from Stephen Ministry? Are you called to become a Stephen Minister? Contact Suzanne Gorter or Sandy Rowland 439-1635.
Stewardship

One of the most challenging areas for some people to put God first in their lives is that of their money. Oh, they’ll seek God first when it comes to prayer. They’ll put God first in terms of attendance at church or in Bible reading. But when it comes to money, the challenge seems much greater. After all, they reason, money is not that important in the overall Christian life.
Unfortunately, that conclusion is not supported in God’s Word. The Lord Jesus certainly thought money was important. Half of Christ’s parables in the New Testament deal with money and material possessions. In fact, there are more verses in the Bible that talk about money and material possessions than there are verses dealing with heaven and hell combined. Use of our possessions is an important issue, one that needs to be kept before us.

As people observe you and others at Mount Carmel Lutheran Church, do they see any difference because of our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ? As they observe your relationship to “things,” especially to money, do they realize you are a manager, a steward, and not an owner? May we strive to make the manner in which we handle money and material possessions a testimony to our faith in Christ.
