Upping Awareness, Perceiving Choice

What if we could be aware and present in our physicality (embodied, if you like) more of the time, rather than less? How do we "up" our awareness in the game of life?

Furthermore, how do we realize that in any of those unexpected situations, we have a choice on how to respond to them? Reaction is reflex, response is choice - how do we learn the difference?

Here's a little example from my own life this past month. I offered Upping Your Awareness Game as a daytime class a few weeks ago. No matter what the class topic, it's always an exercise in "what if" and "what might be" when I try to decide to have a class.

Sometimes, despite my best efforts to accommodate interested students, classes just don't "make." Sadly, that is what happened to "Upping Your Awareness Game" last month. So, I'm trying again back in the evenings, when many people contacted me to say that is what they'd prefer.

When classes don't run, I am faced with choices of how I choose to respond. My first reaction might be to I take it personally, decide that people are simply not reading my newsletter, don't like what I have to offer, or a whole host of other negative thoughts that really are not based in reality or particularly helpful for me to attend to. I also have the option of realizing it's not about me, it's about schedules, life, spring weather, or simply missed opportunities to sign up.

So my choices are to respond to either of these options, or a whole host of other choices in between. I find that when I stay with myself, sit quietly with my options, and then allow myself to listen to my inner voice, I make choices that will move me positively forward on a lot of different levels. My choices this time include improving my advertising, contacting my subscribers again, offering a class a time that will work for more people (Hopefully!) and staying open to possibilities.

And if it doesn't run again as an evening class? Well, recycle and repeat the options for responding.

I guess we'll find out, and I'll keep you posted!

But seriously, it would be great if you'd just sign up for the class instead.

Amusedly,

Robbin

I'll be starting a new introductory Alexander Technique class on May 17, that I hope will give you the skills to up your awareness and improve your options for choice every day.

Come join me at the Decatur Healing Arts Annex studio for a personalized class (limited to 7 people) which will examine the options we have every day to stay present, to choose our responses, to practice embodiment and staying with ourselves.
This four week class will run on Thursdays, May 17 - June 7, from 7:00 - 8:15pm each week.
Cost of registration is $65 for the 4 classes, and pre-registration is required due to the limited number of students.
