Want to know what’s what about a co-op? You can now take a Farming Together online course - an Australian-first that will help your group understand collaborative business structures. It includes information on governance, financing and member engagement. The course comprises six, 10-minute video lessons with quizzes. While it is designed for agricultural groups, it is relevant for other potential co-ops - such as housing or energy co-ops - anywhere in Australia. Complete the entire course and pass the tests and you receive certification from Farming Together.

The Duane Leadbetter Award, backed by AUS-MEAT, supports two people aspiring to be a Food Safety Auditor, one from the Meat Processing Industry and one from the Horticulture Industry. FOOD-WASTE MAP SURVEY
CSIRO is investigating producing products/ingredients from potentially lost produce and by-products obtained on-farm and during processing. It is seeking national data to map the amounts of losses in specific locations. The data could be used to create value-adding regional hubs and producer clusters for value capture. CSIRO will provide you with a diagnostic of your food loss status in comparison with the average national and state benchmark. Irrigators in the Murray Darling Basin can apply for funding through the Commonwealth On-Farm Further Irrigation Efficiency Program for irrigation infrastructure upgrades and other on-farm water efficiency activities. EXPANDED FREE CO-OP TOOLKIT ONLINE
Farming Together recently launched an expanded toolkit for forming and running a co-op. These no-cost, online DIY resources include complete instructions on how to register your co-op, how to transfer shares and how to compile membership and director registers.  The resources range from print-out samples to animated, self-paced learning courses. These were the tools most-requested by the 132 co-ops we are supporting through the Farming Together website (http://co-opbuilder.agworks.com.au).

A national online survey is being conducted by the CSIRO and the Department of the Environment and Energy, asking people with a long-term (>10 year) relationship with a piece of land to share observations about the features that have changed and those that haven’t. EXPORT GRANTS AVAILABLE
Australian Government grants are available to promote cooperation in accessing international markets. Applications may be submitted for projects valued from $55,000 to $1.65m (GST inclusive). There are no set funding rounds and applications for program funding can be submitted at any time until 31 December 2018 or until all funds have been allocated. More? MLA AID FOR FUTURE MEAT INNOVATIONS
Beef, lamb and goat meat producers can get expertise, co-funding and support through the MLA Donor Company’s Producer Innovation Fast-Track. The program can co-invest up to 75% of costs and offers future-focussed producers access to the latest R&D and innovations in livestock production and technical and business expertise. Expressions of interest are sought for Hort Innovation's Australia Fresh Collaborative Market Development Program.
