Community Based Strategic Plan (CBSP)

As part of the Waterfront Master Plan: Phase 1, the Indigenous Gathering Circle is to be constructed by September 2018. The construction will be done by members of the United Steelworkers Union, who are convening in Collingwood for a district convention. Part of the convention is to undertake a large-scale community project in the local area where the triennial conference is held.

The Collingwood Public Library has started a genealogy club, which meets twice a month, to help residents trace their family trees. This summer, the library will be digitizing local history materials to assist online researchers interested in Collingwood history.

In March, Council passed a Zoning By-law Amendment to build on the existing permissions/provisions for secondary suites to allow them in semi-detached dwellings with larger frontages, where appropriate, and introduce opportunities for secondary suites in detached accessory buildings associated with single detached dwelling units on suitably sized lots. It is anticipated that this will create a moderate number of additional secondary suites and affordable housing opportunities.

Staff have been working on a review of existing practices and an exploration of new opportunities to enhance accountability and transparency initiatives and programs and ensuring good governance within the Town of Collingwood. A report was presented to the Strategic Initiatives Standing Committee on July 9, outlining additional measures to enhance our accountable local government.

The full CBSP, including goals, action items, key performance indicators and the annual reporting template is available at www.collingwood.ca/CBSP.

Live & Original
After three years of growth, the Collingwood Live & Original Music Series is undergoing a number of changes in 2018.

In 2018, L&O will no longer feature a competition between artists, but rather become a series of opportunities for music makers to “Connect, Collaborate, and Cultivate” the creation of music. The Live & Original Music Series is to be renamed the Live & Original Music Initiative to more fully reflect L&O’s change in direction. Aspiring musicians can take part in the MusicLab Mondays, the Live & Original Forum and the Music Crawl as part of the new L&O. Visit liveandoriginal.ca for details.
