Spirit Week starts on Monday, May 7th!

Spirit week is next week, May 7th-10th! Students in all grades are encouraged to show creativity and school spirit by dressing up along a communal theme each day of next week! It will culminate with a Highline Spirit Day on Health and Wellness day on Thursday.
  • Monday: Blast from the Past! Dress in a style from a decade from the past (i.e. 40s, 70s, 80s)
  • Tuesday: Tropical Day! We are all ready for summer!
  • Wednesday: Character Day! Dress as a character from a book, tv show, movie, or comic book! Express yourself through a character you love!
  • Thursday: Spirit Day! Dress in movement-ready, closed-toed, active gear in blue and yellow to show Highline pride! This is also Health and Wellness day, so be ready to move in a "spirited" way!
All grades are encouraged to participate! Please make sure your student is dressed in school appropriate clothing and accessories (no spaghetti straps, ripped jeans, etc). Please be mindful about outfits that are distracting to your student and others.

Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast:

On Tuesday May 22nd at 8am, Highline will host a thank you breakfast for all of the volunteers in our community. Please join us as we celebrate the contributions that you have all made to Highline this year!

Parent's Night Out this Friday!

We would like to offer a wonderful opportunity for our students. Each month, one teacher, a parent volunteer and nearly 8 middle school students will look after your children as a fundraiser for Boston travelers.  This Friday, May 4th, from 5-8pm, they will be supervised, playing at Highline and watching movies. This three-hour period allows you to get caught up on laundry, go to dinner with a special friend, go shopping, or just relax.

Please reserve your child a spot as places are limited. $20 for the first child and $5 for each sibling. Contact Ms. Paulino in the front office or email Mr. V at
mvillalobos@highlineacademy.org.

Nathional Bike & Walk to School Day!

On Thursday, May 10th, our school will be participating in the biannual National Bike & Walk to School Day event. The actual day was supposed to be on Wednesday, but in conjunction with our upcoming Health Day, we decided to do move ours to Thursday instead. We highly encourage your child to bike to school that day because they then can use it during the Bike Rodeo as well. Plus, they will receive free breakfast fruits and a free water bottle that morning, courtesy of Cycleton. It's a healthy way to kick-off our Health Day event! Check out our flyer here.

Health & Wellness Day

Please open this attached flyer to see all the community members, teachers, and parents who have offered their time to make our upcoming Health Day an active success! We wanted to share the list of scheduled presenters with you so you too can join us in our excitement for the day!

Parent Satisfaction Surveys

Reminder: All surveys must be postmarked by May 11th! Thank you for your feedback and participation in this important survey about Highline.

Dismissal Reminder

We have had many of our students with walker permissions leaving "Walker Grass" and waiting in the front of the school. We would like to remind our community that if you give your child walker permissions and they leave the "Walker Grass" area, they are to walk off campus to meet their parent. The front of the school is not a pick-up area and especially since there is construction on Dahlia, the safety of our students is our main priority. We appreciate your cooperation!

Summer Math Camp for girls

Summer math camp for girls

Jeffra Frank, a teacher at Slavens K-8 School, has taught an incredible summer math camp specifically for girls going into first and second grade.  It is a camp for all math levels.  This camp is perfect for girls who love math as well as those who are a bit apprehensive and will benefit from some summer practice.  They play games, dance, and do many engaging activities……. Sometimes without the girls even realizing they are “doing math!”

There are several spots left in the first session (June 18-22) and a few in the second (June 25-29) if you are interested.  Please see the attachment for more information and feel free to contact Jeffra with any questions.

There are also other locations and times for girls in grades K-5 - please see the Count Me in Math website for more information: http://countmeinmath.com/.
