Fun Run Success and other news

Huge thank you to all who came to our event this month, and for those who helped make it so - from our sponsors (read more about them below), to the Youth Volunteers, to St John's First Aid, to Stacy Venekamp-Johnson for guiding the run, and to the GFF core volunteer members.
GFF Fun Walk and Run:
a splendid, sunny event

We are so grateful to all who came to our third annual Fun Walk/Run. Glenmore Reservoir is the most spectacular place to host a walk, with views and amenities. We were so excited to have our second-place participant be one of our Youth supporters! And to have a record number of doggies in the run!
Sponsor Highlight: TItle sponsor Audi Glenmore

We owe huge thanks to Glenmore Audi for their support of our Fun Walk and Run this year.
Glenmore Audi offers its distinguished customers a modern environment where you can discover Audi’s growing range of luxurious models that are the benchmark when it comes to all-season performance. Whether you are looking for a new Audi or a pre-owned model, or you are currently an Audi owner and want the very best in after-sales service and care, trust Glenmore Audi.
Sponsor Highlight:
RBC Dominion Securities

We are so appreciative of RBC for their third straight year of support to our Fun Walk and Run. This year, Ben Dees and Garrett Blakely came out to help with the logistics, but behind-the-scenes, Nick Gill has been a long-term support -
Nicholas Gill of RBC Dominion Securities specializes in wealth management for small business owners and health care professionals.  Nick believes the combination of professional investment management in conjunction with a “big picture” approach to wealth management is the route to success. Maintaining a high degree of transparency and educating his clients allows him to offer an experience built not only upon the principles of professional wealth management, but upon a foundation of trust. www.gillwealthgroup.com
Summer Concert: Aug. 10th
Sandtimer from the UK

We are so excited to be on an "international tour schedule" for Sandtimer, that we want to send an early reminder to save the date for our summer concert this year. Sandtimer is a British indie-folk band formed by Hampshire-based musicians Robert Sword and Simon Thomas. Featuring close vocal harmonies and intricate, Appalachian-infused guitar textures, Sandtimer aim to combine innovative, left-field ideas with classic songcraft to create something at once edgy and familiar.

After touring around the UK, Canada and Germany and releasing two EPs, Different Seas and Mackerel- both featured by a variety of stations and blogs including BBC Radio 6, BBC Introducing, Alex Rainbird and TMRW Magazine- the band will release their first full-length album in late 2018. Come see them in our Yard Space on August 10th at 6:30pm. (event page)

Film Screening at The Plaza

First of all, we are delighted to announce that Monica Kidd, has agreed to be one of GFF's new Directors. She will lend her insight, talent, and global awareness to our work. If you don't know Monica from CJSW or CBC, you may know her as a poet, printmaker, and extraordinary family doctor.

Monica found this incredible documentary to screen here in Calgary. Even When I Fall is a film about the resilient women of Nepal who have been trafficked to India and returned to create Circus Kathmandu. Watch the trailer here and pencil in the date September 25th at 18:30pm at The Plaza in Kensington. (event page)
We appreciate your support of our projects so much, and hope that you've been enjoying our fundraising activities as much as we have! Please reach out to us at globalfamilymed@gmail.com to find out how to get involved, to raise funds at your school or workplace, or for a copy of our annual report. You can always make a donation through Canada Helps, with the option to specify what project you want to support, such as:

Help get a doctor working where they're needed most...
Help provide student scholarships for training in Uganda...
