Free mulch
Lakewood residents can pick up free mulch from 7 a.m. to noon on May 5, 12 and 19 at the City Greenhouse, 9556 W. Yale Ave. Staff will be available with a loader to assist residents. Mulch is a byproduct of Lakewood’s tree trimming operations and limb drop-off events. The mulch makes excellent ground cover in shrub and tree beds and helps landscaped areas retain water. Cycling Without Age wins Sustainability Award
Generosity, storytelling, relationships and cycling – these are the four guiding principles behind Cycling Without Age, an innovative program that has been named one of Lakewood’s 2018 Sustainability Award winners. Cycling Without Age uses a unique bicycle that allows older adults to sit comfortably on the front while a pilot pedals behind. Celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Sustainability Awards on May 7, with a reception at 6 p.m. and a winners recognition at 7 p.m. during the Lakewood City Council Study Session at 480 S. Open house on Eiber history
Join History Matters, the City of Lakewood and the Lakewood Historic Preservation Commission at 6:30 p.m. on May 22 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Parish Hall, 9200 W. 10th Ave., to celebrate the completion of the Eiber Neighborhood Cultural Resource Survey: Challenging Assumptions and Exploring Contradictions. Lakewood Police receive protective equipment
Five Lakewood Police Department agents recently received protective equipment thanks to Fox31 Denver and Channel 2 KWGN's Support the Shield fundraising campaign. Donations from the campaign will help protect more than three dozen Colorado law enforcement officers. Learn more about the campaign.
Bear Creek Lake Park offering summertime programs
Families who are looking to spend the summer connecting with nature are encouraged to register for summertime activities at Lakewood’s Bear Creek Lake Park, 15600 W. Morrison Road. Get moving with a family adventure race, join a park naturalist for a hike, tell stories around the campfire or watch your child catch their first fish. Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon road and traffic alerts
More than 19,000 athletes are expected to participate in the Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon on Sunday, May 20. To provide a safe environment for this year's race, the cities of Aurora, Denver and Lakewood will have temporary road closures along the Colfax Avenue corridor on race day. Volunteers needed for Colfax Marathon
The Lakewood Police Department is looking for volunteers to help with this year’s Kaiser Permanente Colfax Marathon on May 20. Volunteers will help direct people, answer questions and cheer the runners along the marathon course in Lakewood. The position will involve about five hours as well as a short mandatory training session in May. All volunteers will receive a hat and T-shirt. Subdivision approved

Nighttime construction
The city will allow construction to occur at nighttime for the following projects:
- Gas leak repair at 416 S. Sheridan Blvd. The work will occur through May 5 and will require lane closures.
- Pull and splice fiber in Wadsworth Boulevard. The work will occur from May 7 to May 18.
- Reroute underground electric lines in Wadsworth Boulevard. The work will occur through May 6 and will require lane closures.
