Mother's Day at PONDL!!

We invite Mom, friends and the whole family to PONDL Winery, Sunday May 13th from 12 pm-6 pm, to celebrate Mom!! All Moms get a complementary wine tasting and 20% discount on all wine purchases. We'll also give Mom a free PONDL T-shirt with wine purchases! While your at it Mom, treat yourself to unique jewelry, rejuvenating sugar scrubs, specialty toffee, jelly and chutney while you enjoy your tasting! Hope you can join us! 
Strawberries In Red Wine Dessert

2 lbs Strawberries 
1-2 lbs Sugar (as needed)
1 Bottle of good red wine (e.g. PONDL 2014 Dolcetto or 2015 Old Vine Zinfandel Late Harvest)
1 Package Short Bread
1 Pint Crema - Mexican Sour Cream (check the dairy section of your local store)
Optional:
Fresh mint

Method:
Rinse and de-stem strawberries, slice lengthwise and layer into a deep dessert serving dish. 
Sprinkle a generous coating of sugar on the first layer. Repeat 3 to 4 times until all strawberries have been used.
Pour red wine over, cover with film and place in refrigerator for at least 24, ideally 48 hours, stirring occasionally.
The sugar, red wine and juice from the strawberries will combine to create a rich marinade.

Serve over short bread with a dollop of sour creme. Garnish with fresh mint.

This is a great dessert for early summer-time when strawberries are plentiful. For Mother's day, use regular whipped cream instead of sour cream.
