Fraternal Salutations from the Province

The first issue of the electronic Newsletter was well received and I am delighted that this second issue is now ready for publication. Do please let us have your comments and views.

On the subject of ‘firsts’, our first ‘New Members’ meeting is taking place at Letchworth on Sunday, May 20. I urge as many recent Initiates as possible to attend with their families to learn more about this wonderful organisation of Freemasonry and to meet more senior members of the Province. Formalities will be minimal but there will be experienced Masons on hand to give information and answer questions. Details are on our website.

Arrangements for our Family Fun Day are well advanced, as you will see below. Barbara and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at Rickmansworth on July 22!

Sincerely and fraternally,

RW Bro Paul Gower
Provincial Grand Master
The Brethren of Oxhey Lodge No 6864 dress for the occasion at their St George's Day-themed Festive Board

Dressing for the Occasion

The members and guests at Oxhey Lodge No 6864’s recent meeting enjoyed a St George’s Day-themed festive board.

Ross O'Malley said: “Our meal was a staple St George’s Day affair of brown Windsor soup, followed by traditional roast beef with all the trimmings, cheese board, and a glass of port to help get us all into singing mode for belting renditions of Land of Hope and Glory followed by Jerusalem. Much fun was had by all.”.
The Kimpton Players performing for the friends and partners of Park Street Lodge No 8556

Old Time Music Hall

Members, friends and partners of Park Street Lodge No 8556 braved the recent cold weather to enjoy the Kimpton Players' Old Time Music Hall, in support of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.

Provincial Charity Steward Chris Noble said: “An incredible £1,000 was raised on the night, with the Lodge making it up to £1,400.”

A Rather Grand Installation

Halsey Lodge No 1479 recently installed their new Master, W Bro Mark Pedroz, in grand style; with no less than 11 Grand Officers in attendance! They had to share the limelight, though, with the outgoing and incoming Masters of the Lodge and their officers (many of whom are members of The Fleet House Light Blues Club); who delivered an excellent ceremony and provided a memorable afternoon for all who attended.

Aiming High

The recent Herts Provincial Clay Pigeon Shoot attracted an impressive 102 shooters. Provincial Charity Steward Chris Noble said: “This was a fantastic turn-out and we raised £2,400 for the RMTGB, from a raffle, donations and sponsors.”

The top team was 'Harris A' with a score of 393; runner-up was 'Team PSDGC 1' with a score of 375 and the winner of the individual prize was Bob Patch, who scored 92. Runner-up was Gaz Hamilton who scored 90.

Family Fun Day

Now in its third year, the Family Fun Day will once again return to the Masonic Girls School in Rickmansworth on Sunday 22nd July. With stalls ranging from face painting to a human fruit machine and foods such as hog roast, Caribbean and vegetarian barbecue, there is bound to be something for everyone.

This year's event will return to being a Hertfordshire-only affair and Brethren can expect to receive a shiny brochure with their Spring copy of the Provincial News.

FHLBC Indian Evening

Members of the Fleet House Light Blues Club with their partners and friends descended on the Veer Dhara One restaurant in St Albans on Sunday, April 29 for a night of good food, good drink and excellent company.

The restaurant, which is one of the highest-rated in the city on TripAdvisor, served a veritable feast to those present and left many asking whether the event could be made a weekly affair!

Calling All Lodge Secretaries!

The new Provincial Newsletter is off to a fantastic start! However, with the new data protection rules about to come into force, it is essential that all Brethren opt-in to our mailing list if they would like to be kept up-to-date with all the goings-on in the Province. As such, could we ask that all Lodge Secretaries take this message back to their individual Lodges and spread the word – especially amongst those Brethren who perhaps are not so familiar with the new digital world.

We've made the opting-in process even easier – just go to www.pglherts.org/email, enter your details and you're done!
