Dorchester Road Rehabilitation: Update

At Tuesday's meeting, Niagara Falls City Council approved an additional $400,000 in capital funding to temporarily rehabilitate Dorchester Road from McLeod Road to Lundy's Lane.

The rehabilitation will involve milling and paving as an efficient, cost-effective, 10-year solution to address drivability and drainage issues by removing all the construction joints and re-establishing the crown in the road.  Full road reconstruction and new infrastructure work is forecasted to commence in 8 to 10 years.

The original 2018 Capital budget included $500,000 to address concerns on Dorchester Road as part of the Road Resurfacing and Rehabilitation Program.  The additional $400,000 will be allocated from the City's Federal Gas Tax Program.

Election Lawn Signs:  By-Law Update

At Tuesday's meeting Council passed the Elections Sign By-Law which prohibits the posting of election lawn signs until 45 days before Election Day. The first day a sign can be posted is Friday, September 7, 2018.

The City's existing by-law states that municipal election lawn signs could be erected on Nomination Day, which would extend the time frame to 87 days before the election. The revised by-law is intended to address public concerns over visual pollution caused by the presence of lawn signs over the newly extended pre-election time frame.
