Back in late-2017 the CRA had to apologize after a CBC investigative report uncovered unfair claw backs of child benefits for a significant number of single mothers across Canada. As if mothering on the margins wasn't tough enough already, in 2016 Republicans in Illinois tried to bar single mothers from receiving either a birth certificate or state aid for their child if they didn't disclose the father's name. Stories like these are more common than you'd think. Mothering outside the idealized notions of motherhood are still a social taboo today and subject to state repression and even violence. Rarely do we hear from mothers mothering in poverty, on the fringes of society, or committed to radical politics. Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines changes that.
