April 2018 Newsletter

April was another exciting month for me, packed with new photographic opportunities, new announcements, and new firsts for some different types of photography.  As always, I appreciate the support and encouragement that comes from you following me along my journey.  Thank you so much for that!  My goal and my hope is not just to create art through my images, but also to connect with you in meaningful ways and to be even just a small part in your own journey, as well.  I truly believe art connects people across all perceived borders and lines and brings us all closer together.  Please don't ever hesitate to reach out to me to provide feedback, thoughts, or comments anytime.  My contact information can be found at the bottom of this newsletter.

Only one blog post was made in April, but it was an important one for me because it launched my YouTube channel, as well as my first video, created from still images in my portfolio.

Publications in April

In the month of April, I had images published in two magazines.

Twelve of my abstract images were published in the Shadows & Light Magazine, Spring Edition.  Shadows & Light is an international print & digital magazine, which is published quarterly, and features fine art photography from around the world, created by both prominent professionals and talented amateurs, as well as students and photography lovers yet to be discovered.  Shadows and Light Magazine was started in 2016 with the mission of promoting creative photographers worldwide, and I'm honored to have been selected to feature some of my abstract works in this publication.  Follow this link to see a preview and subscribe for a free issue:

One of my images from Geode State Park was featured in an article about Iowa State Parks, in the Iowa Department of Natural Resource's quarterly magazine, Iowa Outdoors.  The magazine website link is:

Upcoming Events & Announcements

I was selected, by a juried panel, as a vendor for the Snake Alley Art Fair, in Burlington, Iowa, on Sunday, 17 June, from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.  If you happen to be in the area on this date, please stop by my booth.  I'd love to meet you in person!

In collaboration with Iowa Through the Lens, I will be teaching a Creative & Abstract Landscape ICM Photography class on Saturday, 26 May, in the Corallville, Iowa, area.  The class includes both classroom instruction and practical application in the field on the technique of intentional camera movement to create abstract photographic images by 'seeing' the landscape in a different way.  To learn more about the class or to register, click on the image or follow this link to Iowa Through the Lens.

A set of my images will be featured in the closing segment of an upcoming Iowa Public Television (IPTV) show, called Iowa Outdoors.  The episode will air on Wednesday, 23 May.  You can view the episode on PBS, IPTV, or on the IPTV website when it's released later this month.

Also, I have some other very exciting news with regard to IPTV's show Iowa Outdoors!

The producer has asked to do a feature episode about me and my photographic style, which will be filmed on location at Geode State Park, in SE Iowa, this October.  The episode will include an interview about my photographic endeavors, and the film crew will follow me at Lake Geode as I photograph in nature for a couple hours.  Stay tuned in the coming months for more information about this.

As mentioned earlier, I launched a YouTube channel in early April.  The video seen here is the channel trailer video.

I'm currently in the process of creating an abstract ICM video, as well as a time lapse video from one of my recent star trails shoots.

If you haven't already done so, I would really appreciate you visiting and subscribing to the channel.
