Hello The Ones!

We hope this May note finds you well indeed. How have the past couple of weeks been for you? We have our usual edit of mind consuming ideas below, things we’re learning and experimenting with, peppered with the sublime.

As many of you know, conscious living is the underlying ethos that runs through our work here at PER/se. What does that mean? For us, it about being intentional with our decision making, something Nikola Tesla referred to as aligning our desires with our will i.e. our actions truly represent considered, deliberate choices. The interplay between what we desire and what we think we should do is a constant programme running in the fore and back, ground. This monthly letter is a small note in a much bigger symphony of influences you choose to allow into your life, whether through inertia or intrigue. We know your inbox is overflowing, and we're in there along with emails for group brunches and vouchers for Pet Smart. So wherever you find yourself as this email pings in, don't read it until you're ready. Sit deliberately, with a chosen beverage in hand, take a few moments to tune out the fray, adjust your frequency and let the unexpected take a place at the table.

Enjoy!

SEE: Yes, we're directing you to the Daily Mail website. If you think life on Mars would be unreal, take a look at what planet Earth has to offer; inside Iceland’s Breidamerkurjokull glacier.

Listen: The Change Agent podcast produced by the NY Times. Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit is the mind (and voice) behind this. As is self-evident from the title, Duhigg's book analyses how habits are formed, maintained and broken. Initially listening to the intro. of this podcast we were a little sceptical, especially with bait such as 'What can a recovering alcoholic learn from a Domino's Pizza marketing campaign?', but we put aside the negative nelly inner voice and found the episodes to be compelling, erudite and often, strangely moving.

Read: Tim Urban of the blog Wait But Why is a serial thinker (and self-proclaimed mega procrastinator). His latest post, 'How to Pick a Career (That Actually Fits You)' is up for the taking here. N.B. this topic goes beyond any specific age bracket so dive in freely.

Explore: We've mentioned this platform before but we think they are doing important, incredibly useful work. The Centre for Humane Technology, formerly Time Well Spent, is an organisation seeking ways to help us rebalance our relationship with our devices. They have a smart checklist of ways to approach one's phone, plus many other helpful, mental frameworks, here.

Watch: Sleep. It's a big deal. Especially if you're interested in having a good quality of life. Neuroscientist Matthew Walker sits down with comedian Joe Rogan and goes deep into the science of sleep, watch here.
