Late in 2017, Steve and Jess Farewell of NJ Play received an unsolicited call from Eric LeGrand.  He was seeking guidance and support in running his first annual charity flag football tournament through his foundation, Team LeGrand, part of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, both on a mission to finding a cure for spinal cord injuries. Since NJ Play Sports was founded, supporting charities has always been important to them, so they knew this was an event that they would be more than happy to take part in. They offered their services in helping promote the tournament, as well as took the lead in hosting the registration, communication and day-of operations.

For those who are not familiar with Eric and his story, on October 16th, 2010, in his junior year at Rutgers University, LeGrand suffered a severe spinal injury during a game against Army in Met Life Stadium. Following a head-on collision against an opposing player, LeGrand lay on the ground for several minutes before being carted off, only able to move his head. He was taken to the intensive care unit of the Hackensack University Medical Center, where doctors determined that LeGrand fractured his C-3 and C-4 vertebrae and was paralyzed from the neck down.

LeGrand's strength and courage following his injury captured attention across the nation. He is now a much sought-after motivational speaker. Once the tournament was announced, local news broadcasters and radio personnel contacted Eric, all wanting to help raise awareness for his event and mission. The event was featured on NY Fox 5 news, News 12 NJ, KTU, Z-100 and NFL Network's Good Morning Football. It was also shared by several highly-followed social media handles, including WWE and Triple H.

The event took place over the weekend on Saturday, April 28th at Rutgers University. For anyone interested in making a donation, please visit give.reeve.org/elfootball
Welcome!

Join us in welcoming our newest members, James Speegle and Blake Bullard of OSSO Sports & Social!

Founded in 2016, OSSO started out in Oklahoma City and has since expanded to Tulsa.  They currently have over 4700 players, have played over 11,000 flip-cup games, have facilitated over 7,800 Jell-O shots taken, and have raised over $25,000 for charity.

OSSO provides the structure – scheduling, officiating, uniforms, venues, whatever – so their players can spend time doing what matters, like synchronizing team chants, drawing up complex flag football plays, or debating the intricacies of the perfect kickball pitch.

Keep up the great work, guys!
