S.T.E.A.M. Team Thursday Thursday, May 3rd at 4 pm
STEAM Team returns for 4th through 6th graders! This after-school program focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. We will meet from 4-5 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 10, & 17. Some of the activities will include using dominoes to explore how chain reactions work. All materials are provided. Our STEAM activities are funded by a grant from the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded by the State Library of Ohio.

Star Wars Day
Friday, May 4th Fans of all ages are invited to stop by the library on Friday, May 4 to celebrate with us. Enjoy a variety of activities in both our Children's and Adult departments, have your picture taken with our cardboard cutouts of R2-D2, C-3PO, and Darth Vader. Come dressed in your best Star Wars attire. As Obi Wan Kenobi stated, “Remember…the Force will be with you, always.”
Plant Exchange Saturday, May 5th from 10:30 am to 12 pm
The library will once again host a plant exchange.
Ann McPeek, local Master Gardener, will be here to answer plant-related questions.
This years event will be held from 10:30am until Noon.
Bring healthy plants that you no longer want or need and take home the same number of plants in a new variety. Herbs and vegetables are welcome.
Basic Guidelines:
Please label containers with the plant, color, and sun specifications if known.
If you bring a plant that is a rapid spreader, please warn the recipient so they can plant with caution
Please do not bring plants that have disease or insect problems.
Cookbook Club Monday, May 7th at 6 pm
Deb Perelman, award-winning blogger and best-selling author, wants what everyone wants – great food without all the fuss. Orrville Public Library’s Cookbook Club will feature “The Smitten Kitchen Everyday” for its Monday, May 7 meeting.
The cookbook features over 100 impossible-to-resist recipes, recipes for real people. Whether cooking for yourself, supper with friends, or your family on a busy weeknight, this cookbook will entice you to drop everything and start cooking!
Check out your copy of the cookbook, prepare a dish, and bring it to the group’s 6 p.m. meeting. No registration is required.
Mother's Day Story times Tuesday, May 8th 9:30 or 10:30AM
There are countless reasons for celebrating our wonderful Mothers. Join us in celebrating Moms on May 8th at 9:30 or 10:30am! Children ages 2 - 5 to can attend one of these very special story times. For more information or to register please call 330-683-1065.
Hanging Basket Sale Friday, May 11th and Saturday May 12th
Our Friends group will hold their annual hanging hanging basket sale on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12. Basket choices include begonias, fuchsias, New Guinea impatiens, ivy geraniums, petunias, lobelia, a combo basket containing assorted colors, and Boston ferns. The sale will be held in the library's parking lot with the hours of 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 11 and 10 a.m. until sold out on Saturday, May 12. Proceeds from the sale help support the library's summer reading programs.
Ready to Learn Tuesday, May 15th 6 OR 7PM
Children entering kindergarten and a parent will enjoy an evening of FREE activities that will help children prepare for school. Each child will receive a packet containing: a picture book, kindergarten pencil & scissors, fun summer workbooks & learning games. Adult Book Club Tuesday, May 15th 6:30 pm
The book for this month is "Grandma Gatewood's Walk." This inspiring true story is about Emma Gatewood, a 67-year-old grandmother who declared she was going for a walk and left her small Ohio town with a change of clothes and less than $200. The next time she was heard from she had walked 800 miles along the Appalachian Trail! She has been the only woman to walk the entire trail alone, not only once, but three times.
Copies of the book will be available at our Circulation Desk. The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15 for discussion.
Wayne College Mini Maker Faire Saturday, May 19th 10 am - 3 pm
Join the library at the Wayne College Mini Maker Faire. They call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth. Maker Faire is part science fair, part county fair, and part something entirely new! As a celebration of the Maker Movement, it’s a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness. Faire gathers together tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, food artisans, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors. Makers come to show their creations and share their learnings. Attendees flock to Maker Faire to glimpse the future and find the inspiration to become Makers themselves. Summer Storytime Registration Begins
Wednesday, May 30th
Summer Storytimes will run June 18th through Aug 6th. There will be no storytime during the week of July 4th. For more information and to register, please call the Children’s Department at 330-683-1065 or stop by the Children's desk.
Opening Day for Summer Reading!
Saturday, June 2nd
It's time to kick off Summer Reading! We have balloons, games, life-sized book characters, cotton candy and popcorn, fun for all ages and a chance to register for the Summer Reading Program, "Libraries ROCK!" Both Adults and Children can register to win prizes!
