End Child Poverty
The campaign has now passed 2300 signatures. More and more people are joining the movement to call on Wisconsin to adopt a goal of cutting child poverty in half, of reducing racial disparities, and committing to an annual evaluation of our progress. Before we bring this demand to our elected leaders, we want to reach 10,000 signatures, so they know this is a serious campaign with broad support.
Consider signing on to the petition and asking at least one other person to do the same.. It is easy to do, all that is needed is your name and email address. Find the Petition Here.

Catholic Climate Covenant
The Catholic Climate Covenant launched a new nationwide campaign (Catholics Are Still In) to garner the U.S. Catholic community’s support for climate action. With our partners, we developed the U.S. Catholic Climate Declaration, which expresses the Catholic imperative to protect and promote human life and human dignity, especially among the poorest and most vulnerable peoples, by protecting our common home and acting on climate change.
Read the Catholic Climate Declaration
The U.S. Catholic Climate Declaration is an expression of solidarity with the We Are Still In campaign which began in June 2017, after President Trump announced his intention to withdraw the U.S. from the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement. Over 2,600 institutions have joined the We Are Still In campaign thus far, representing the largest cross-section of American society ever to support climate action.
Last week, three Catholic bishops sent a letter to their fellow bishops asking them to sign their dioceses onto the Declaration. Today, Bishop Pates of the Diocese of Des Moines and Episcopal Liaison to the Covenant sent a letter to the leaders of Catholic institutions across the nation asking them to join.
We are delighted to offer the opportunity for you to help us enlist more Catholic leaders (of parishes, dioceses, schools, college/universities, health care facilities, and other institutions) to sign the U.S. Catholic Climate Declaration!
Here’s How You Can Help:
1) If you lead a Catholic organization/institution/ community (e.g., parish, school, college/university/institute/ center, health care facility, etc.), you can sign your institution on to the U.S. Catholic Climate Declaration here.
2) If you are a member of a Catholic organization/institution/ community, you can urge your leader (priest, bishop, president, CEO, etc.) to sign the U.S. Catholic Climate Declaration.
Please note that the Declaration is to be signed by the LEADERS of U.S. Catholic organizations/institutions/ communities…not individual Catholics.
Timeline: Commitments to the Catholic Climate Declaration will be made public on the third anniversary of the release of Laudato Sí, June 18, 2018. The deadline for signing the Declaration is June 11th, 2018.

Catholic Institutions Divest from Fossil Fuels
On Earth Day, April 22, Caritas Internationalis, Catholic banks with total balance sheets of approximately €7.5 billion, archdioceses, and a coalition of dozens of Catholic institutions announced their divestment. This group of 35 represents religious orders, leg movements, and Catholic justice organizations from around the world.
Divestment is the opposite of investment–it is the removal of investment capital from stocks, bonds, or funds. The global divest-invest movement is asking institutions to move their money out of oil, coal, and gas companies for both moral and financial reasons, and encouraging reinvestment of those resources in clean energy companies that will help solve the climate crisis while tackling energy poverty.
Pope Francis tells us that “technology based on the use of highly polluting fossil fuels . . . needs to be progressively replaced without delay.” (Laudato Si’ 165)
Read the full list of divesting institutions, with quotations from selected leaders, here. You can request companies and organizations, Catholic and non-Catholic to do the same.

Jesus Said To Welcome the Stranger, Not Militarize the Border
"The land of the free and the home of the brave" is quickly becoming an oxymoron with the latest decision by the White House to deploy the National Guard to the southern border region of the US. This is another indignity aimed at our immigrant and refugee sisters and brothers who predominantly come from communities of color. Those coming today are mostly women and children seeking request for asylum under US domestic law. They post no security threat, nor are they the villains that the White House portrays. In addition this administration's suggestion to arm teachers and security guards in our schools and the continuing militarization of our city streets is a sad commentary on the moral values of this current administration.
