Spring Concert

Our Spring Concert is Friday evening, May 11, at 7 in the Sanctuary. The Middle School Orchestra and Recorder Ensemble will play, and we will also feature some wonderful 8th grade soloists. We hope you will bring friends and family to share this beautiful evening of music!  It is a wonderful opportunity for the whole community to enjoy our children's progress and musical offerings.

YEARBOOKS

Yearbooks are currently in production at the printer and will be delivered and distributed before the end of the school year.  Same as last year, the cost of the yearbook is built into student fees collected with tuition, so every student will receive one.

Tardy Policy

As we get so close to the end of our school year, it is tempting to forget the WSA Tardy Policy.  When students arrive late to school, they miss valuable lesson time and can have difficulty integrating into the flow of the day. In addition, they create a disruption to the class that can be challenging for the other students. For these reasons, timely arrival is very important. Students in grades 1-5 should arrive each day between 7:50 and 8:10 a.m. Students in middle school (grades 6- 8) should arrive between 7:50 and 8:05 a.m. Students in grades 1-8 who arrive for school after the designated times should report to the Receptionist to receive a late pass that will allow them to be admitted to their class. Younger students should be escorted by their parent or guardian to the office. The complete policy is found on pages 32-33 of the WSA Family Handbook.  The full Family Handbook is on the Parent Resources page of our website.

Summer Camp

SUMMER CAMP UPDATE: Summer Camp enrollment is going strong, and several of our camps are full! Enrollment is now closed for Inman Park/Summer Sprouts, but there is still space available on the Decatur campus for kindergarten aged children. We have also adjusted the age for the Summer Garden ending at 1:00pm to include three year olds, but they must be potty trained! Knitting camp is also full and closed to further enrollment. Parents wanting their child to learn and enjoy more knitting, might want to enroll in the Make and Take camp, which will be a combination of knitting, crochet and felting, depending on the interest of the child. Please contact the office if you have a younger grade school child who would like to participate in this camp.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES: Rising grades 2-6 will enjoy exploring some of Atlanta's beautiful green spaces. Campers will design and make their own journals, and then bring them along each day to record their adventures through drawing, collaging, poetry or short story. The campers will explore a new space each day of the week and have ample opportunity to embrace their love of nature!

WSA Summer Camp Season: June 11, 2018 – August 3, 2018 (No Camp the week of July 2-6, 2018)  Camps available for Preschool, Kindergarten & Grades at Decatur.  Camps for ages 2-4 at Inman Park. Signup now in ACTIVE .   You can choose between a 3-payment option with deposit and subsequent payments or one total payment.

Academe of the Oaks News

Animal Husbandry
Academe is a Green-certified school and our students are at the heart of Academe's environmental initiatives. We have incorporated environmental science into the curriculum and expanded our gardening program to include animal husbandry. Our students tend to honeybee hives, a number of chickens and three of the cutest baby goats. Our animal care team is taking their responsibility very seriously and they make sure that the goats and the chickens are cared for on a daily basis. The goats are so tame and it easy to take them on a walk or just give them hugs, which they love.

We are fortunate that we can offer this kind of important experience to our students. It is beautiful to learn about life cycles first hand while practicing consistency, responsibility and care taking with empathy.
