Spring has sprung, I think. There are daffodils, lambs in the fields, and the weather fluctuating from sunshine one minute to snowing the next. It’s been a fun-filled month with Easter families, two primary schools and two youth groups, interviews for Staff, a wedding and a drive-thru zip wire session. Intrigued? You will be, as you settle down for this month’s edition of Min y Don News.

Groups

Easter Family Weeks are always a favourite for us here at Min y Don. We hope they are for you too. They certainly seemed to be for the families who were here at the beginning of April. Week 1 had a group of families who have visited us many times before. The Sheffield Contingent were here in full force, renewing acquaintances and making new friends and Week 2, although quieter (I mean fewer in number!) saw guests who were very familiar with the place meeting families who were here for the first time. Places are filling fast for next year, so early booking recommended!

Once back in term time mode, Schools from Deeside and West Lancashire visited as did youth groups from Aberystwyth and Chester. It’s been a busy month and great to see so many enjoying the first signs of spring and getting stuck into lots of activities too.

Team News

The Team are great – as always. They’ve enjoyed the groups and those that are working towards qualifications have been out & about either on courses or getting more climbs, rides and river trips into log books.

We’ve been interviewing for new Team Members, both for summer and longer term team and sadly have said ‘goodbye’ to one of our Team as Eton has moved on to pastures new. We miss him but wish him well for this next chapter in his life.

As we often have done over the years, we as a Team have been both attendees and contributors at a wedding. This time it was Joy Wakeling’s big day. She left Min y Don at the end of February this year and on April 14th married Anthony Lee at Elim Church in Burton-On-Trent. As ever, it was wonderful to see so many past and present Team members all together and enjoying such a wonderful occasion. We pray God’s richest blessings on Joy & Anthony as they start this exciting adventure in their lives. We’re looking forward to a visit from the happy couple sometime soon.

The Ultimate Adventure

As you will no doubt be aware the theme for this years’ Ultimate Adventure is pirates! We can’t wait! We’re practising our pirate voices, training up Polly the parrot and getting ready to film our very own Pirate Murder Mystery all ready for the big week in August! There are only a few places left so if you want to spend a week here with the Crew aboard the good ship Min y Don then give us a call and we’ll book you a place.

Keeping In Touch

No doubt, like every other person in the UK you’ll be receiving emails and letters asking you if you want organisations you are involved with to stay in touch with you. Min y Don is no different, so if you've been getting our printed newsletter, or are a Min y Don Ambassador then you can expect to hear from us shortly asking if you’d like to stay as such.

If you’re reading this via our Facebook page or on minydon.com and are wondering how to subscribe then you can sign up for free here! If you are thinking "what’s a Min y Don Ambassador?" then again, just drop us a line and we’ll happily recruit you. It means, amongst other things that you get sent free chocolate at last twice a year!

Activities

Those of you who follow our news will know that our new climbing tower and abseiling area are still to be unveiled to guests. This is because we are making new paths and a new and improved access to the activity sites all the way from the car park right through to the Zip Wire. There have been a few delays but we’re hopeful of a completion of the mission sometime next month.

It’s an ambitious project that will mean future woodland maintenance issues are more easily resolved & we’ll have improved access for any disabled guests. As part of the building process we had the unusual sight of a vehicle appearing at a recent zip wire session. Traffic lights might be needed should anyone be coming down the wire at the time!

We’ll keep you updated and we hope that everything will be up & running in time for the annual Min y Don Open Day which is to be on Saturday the 12th May - here's some more details on our Facebook page.

Thank you again to all who have supported, encouraged and prayed. We look forward to being in touch with more news again next month when we hope to have reports on: the new climbing tower and crate climbing activities in action, the Min y Don Open Day, more schools and youth groups in residence and another fun-filled week of families here for a half-term break.
