The new Voicing eBook is now available for Android or Apple devices!

Complete Piano Voicing: Pragmatic, Intuitive, and Inclusive is now available on my website. (www.pianotechniciantutorials.com for Apple; PTT Bookstore for Android)

We cannot take checks at this time, but you may purchase using PayPal or credit card. Note that when you purchase you will be required to register on our site. This is simply so you can download the ebook. And we can notify you updates when updates are available!

Updates are being sent out for the Grand Regulation, and the Vertical Regulation eBooks.

New in these versions are quizzes at the end of each chapter to help you test your knowledge. There are also some typo fixes and a few other minor changes. As we receive your feedback future updates will expand both of these volumes to answer more of your questions.

Last month I was awarded the James H. Burton Award at the WestPac PTG Convention in Anaheim, CA. I was humbled to receive this honor from my peers, and I’m sure it was given in part due to my efforts with the Piano Technician Tutorials. Many thanks to my friends in PTG!

Tools and Tips

Tool magnetizer/demagnetizer

If you’re like me, I sometimes drop screws in places that are hard to reach. Instead of carrying a long magnet, I now keep a magnetized screwdriver to use in those occasions. It also helps when removing the screws from a grand action stack, and for upright hammer flange screws. I always seem to drop those! The attached video shows one of many tools available to magnetize your screwdrivers. It also shows how easy it is to demagnetize them as well, because sometimes you really don’t want it picking up everything in its path.

Shank Splicing made easy

The next video shows how I splice shanks. I failed to mention, however, that sometimes when spicing a grand hammer shank the “perfect straw” won’t fit, so just use thread and carefully align the parts as you wrap the thread. With the hybrid glueing method shown in the video, it only takes a few seconds to dry, so you can easily cut the thread, (as I did the straw in the video) sand lightly, and voila! Perfect every time!

Your Questions Answered

Todays question is about the new Android version of the Voicing book. Several people say that some videos don’t work on their device. My IT man pointed out that some Android “eReader” Apps are not as good as others. I was told by a friend that the Kindle App (free App) works well. We’re new to all this, so if you have a question, or if you know of something that may help out, please email me!

I also want to welcome all of our new subscribers. Visit our newsletter archive page to read previous newsletters.
