Field Botany: Basics of Plant Identification

Learn the basics of plant identification with DC-based herbalist botanist, and forager Holly Poole-Kavana. This class will be taught in two sections: the morning will consist of an indoor presentation of the basic concepts of botany and the plant characteristics used in field identification, illustrated with close-up photographs. The afternoon will be spent outdoors observing real-life examples of the concepts from the morning presentation, learning to recognize common plant families, and practicing ID with a key.

Thurgood Marshall Academy Garden Intern Summer 2018
The school garden at Thurgood Marshall Academy (TMA) is seeking a temporary part-time garden intern from May-August 2018.  You will not be responsible for working with students of either TMA or Savoy Elementary, however you must be able to pass a background check.  We estimate a confident gardener would require 6-8 hours of garden work per week.  You will receive a stipend of $500-$650 depending on level of experience and successful completion of the season. ECO City Farms Spring/Summer Farm Apprenticeship
ECO’s apprenticeships present an immersive, hands-on opportunity to learn about sustainable urban agriculture by working directly with experienced farm staff. We welcome proposals that will investigate public and private policies from a range of political ideologies and perspectives. By policies, we mean not just laws and regulations at the local, state, and federal level, but also private sector practices, such as those affecting workplaces, neighborhood and community development, and family stability. Both public and private sector policies and practices can significantly impact a person’s health.
