North West Children & Families Network Relaunch
Friday 23rd May

The North West Children and Families Network is inviting all third sector organisations working with children, young people to a networking event. There will be a presentation from Karen Dyball about the North West Locality Planning Children's Services work. 

There will also will be an opportunity to network with staff from GHSCP, Education and Community Planning.

Grants Available to Tackle Holiday Hunger 

The council has allocated £2 million to support third sector organisations to provide holiday meals to children and young people. .
The grant application, guidance on completion and guidelines on healthy food is available here.

Funding Package for Early Learning and Childcare Agreed 

The Scottish Government and COSLA have committed to investing almost a billion pounds annually to fund the expansion of funded early learning and childcare. Read more here.

1 Million More Children in Poverty Since 2010 

Research by the TUC estimates that 3.1 million children with working parents will be living below the poverty line in 2018, compared to 2.1 million at the start of the decade. More here.

This week (14th to 20th May) is Bookbug Week. You can find out about events near you on the Scottish Book Trust website here.

Survey: Brexit and Young People

Children In Scotland are collating views on the involvement of children and young people in the Brexit negotiations as well as the impact of Brexit on the third sector. You can respond here.

Scottish Youth Parliament

The Scottish Youth Parliament is sitting on 9th and 10th June. Glasgow MSYPs are keen to seek young people’s views. Could you encourage any young people you work with to take a few minutes to complete their consultation, which can be accessed here 

Holyrood Committee to Consult on Raising the Age of Criminal Responsibility 

The Equalities and Human Rights Committee will consider whether the age of criminal responsibility in Scotland  - currently 8 years old - should be raised to 12, bringing it in line with recommendations from the United Nations Commission on the Rights of the Child.

Survey: Single Parents In Scotland

One Parent Families Scotland are carrying out research into issues affecting single parents in Scotland. If you work with single parents, you can help by passing on the link to the survey.

Early Years Assistance: Consultation on the Best Start Grant Regulations

The Scottish Government and COSLA are consulting on the Best Start Grant Regulations which set out which families will be entitled to additional financial support.

Tuesday 5th June 2pm to 4.30pm

The key speakers in this good practice session are Henry Mattias, Care Inspectorate: Rachel Cowper, Inspiring Scotland and staff from 3D Drumchapel and the Jeely Piece Club.

Child Development Training
Tuesday 12th June, 2pm - 4.30pm - Albany Centre

The growing brain is influenced by many factors, including a child’s relationships, experiences and environment. In this course, you will learn about the crucial role staff play in supporting early brain development. This session will be led by staff from Early Years Scotland.

Pre-Birth to Three Framework Training
Wednesday 20th June, 6.30pm - 9pm - Albany Centre

This session focuses on the importance of the earliest years for our youngest children. To looks at staff roles in supporting the 4 key principles and the 9 features of Pre-Birth to Three in practice.  This evening session will be led by staff from Early Years Scotland.

The Getting It Right for Every Child team at the ALLIANCE is delighted to invite you to the launch of the new  ‘Involving children, young people, parents and carers in planning to meet children’s wellbeing needs’ resource.

ALLIANCE Consultation on the Scottish Government Disabled Children, Young People and Families Framework 
12th June from 10am – 12pm at ALLIANCE Offices, 349 Bath Street, Glasgow,
The Scottish Government has committed to developing a resource to support disabled children, young people and their families. They are seeking feedback on the draft resource, and the ALLIANCE is hosting a consultation event. If you would like to attend, register here
