May 2018

Notes from Mr. Branton:
I Apologize for the confusion in the previously sent out May newsletter. The correction has been made on this newsletter showing the correct day and time for the Spring Carnival.
I apologize again for the confusion,
Abby Schuft

Kindergarten Enrollment Night-  Westwood will be hosting our Kindergarten Roundup Night for families on May 10th from 6-7.  Please share the information with friends and neighbors.

Join us Thursday May 17th  Westwood will be hosting our annual Spring Picnic on Thursday, May 17th. This year we will be having Carnival games which will be $.50 per game. There will also be free events including Bounce Houses and yard games. The Buy One Get One Scholastic Book fair will also be taking place that evening sponsored by our Title One Department through District 742. We look forward to a fantastic evening.

Testing Schedule: Our students in grades 3-5 are in the process of completing their MCA tests in reading & math. 5th grade students will be finishing science next week. All students in grades k-5 will be taking the STAR Test through the month of May. The STAR Test measures student growth over the year. This data helps with class placement for next year.

Class Placement Meetings- Towards the end of May, teachers in grades K-4 gather to place students in classrooms for next year. The process begins in May, but isn’t finalized until late Summer when enrollment becomes more concrete. We work through a process that determines the best fit for your student and offers the greatest opportunity for success based on the needs of your student.
