CASM Cultural Eco Garden

Come along to CASM and meet Mandurah's macro-invertebrates!

Wednesday, 23 May - 11AM - 12:30PM

Murdoch University researcher Sorcha Cronin-O'Reilly, works in the exciting realm of benthic macro-invertebrates, from aquatic worms to crabs that live in/on the sediment.

Sorcha returns to Mandurah with samples of the macro-invertebrates she is studying, as a continuation from her recent presentation at Peel Bright Minds' inaugural science café event. To meet Sorcha and learn more about the biodiversity of our estuary, join us at CASM, and then stay for a BYO shared picnic lunch.

Contact Helen Coleman at coleman_clan@bigpond.com to RSVP.

Notes from the Garden

Hi everyone,
Members of the public and the Koolbardies Talking Group came together last weekend at a workshop facilitated by local artist Karen Morgan to create ceramic plant labels for the 35 species of local native plants in the garden.

The signs will be installed ready for the Stretch Art Festival on 5-6 May, when visitors to the garden can participate in a free ecodyeing workshop as part of the weekend long family festival.

Noongar elder George Walley and Community Development Officer Tara Hohaia have been assisting us with dual language signage for the garden, and it was lovely to show him what we have done so far, and thank him in person for his contribution.

The next volunteer workshop is Tuesday 15th May.

Hope to see you at the free workshop or in the garden soon!

All the best,
Helen Coleman
CASM Cultural Garden Manager

Reflecting with Art Program

Artists wanted!

Reflecting with Art is a creative engagement program tailored for people living with dementia and their support companion. Informal art appreciation sessions and hands-on workshops take place monthly at both the CASM and Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery spaces, in addition to outreach sessions that are taken to local care facilities.

We are currently looking for expressions of interest from local artists who are interested in allowing the team to use up to three artworks for presentation sessions, or would like to be involved as a guest artist and talk to participants about inspirations, ideas and the pieces they have created. Guest artists will be renumerated for their time, as well as offered training opportunities with Alzheimer's WA throughout the year.

For more information, please contact Jo Towse at Lakelands Library and Community Centre on 9550 3835 or jo.towse@mandurah.wa.gov.au.
