Help us to help them!  We are hoping to raise substantial funds on GiveSTL day, May 2nd; our goal is $5,000 but of course more would be wonderful.  Heartland is an all volunteer organization and in efforts to make ends meet the foster homes buy many of the supplies needed for the critters out of their own pockets.  We are dedicated animal lovers that give of our time, our homes, and our money to save unwanted and abandoned pets.  BUT, we still cannot do it without your help.  By the time we pay off the vet bills at the end of the month our adoption fees are spent and we are working to get supplies and any special foods for the critters we still have in foster.  Kitten season is here and we are overwhelmed with moms and babies and still have many long term foster animals in our care.  We are a no kill rescue and only euthanize critters for medical reasons.  You can schedule any donations in advance or wait until the 2nd of May.  Any donation large or small is appreciated and valued and so very needed!  And thank you in advance for continuing to support Heartland in our efforts to support all the critters!
Attack of the Killer Kitten Season
I love kittens, no surprise there; and cats too, honest. But I am a sucker for babies, and just about everyone trying to place moms and babies in rescue knows it. Yes I get hit up quite a bit and I do all I can. There is a limit to what any one person can do and each comes with a sob story and threats of‘going to be euthanized’ if you do not take her. Saying no is very hard, staying sane was given up on long ago, and harassing others is often done to get them to rescue and not take them yourselves. Heartland has pregnant moms from all over our state and even one from Iowa. Many have given birth already and a few are just waiting to push the hungry litter buggers out into the cruel world. My foster mom from Iowa showed up at the farm of a family member wanting inside and would not give up. Finally the person visiting the family farm put her in their car and drove her back down here intending to keep her as a pet. Well, she HATED the family dogs and intended to murder them at the first possible chance, so off to the vet to get checked out and to beg for help in placing her elsewhere. And of course she was in the family way, luckily this vet happened to be a Heartland vet and a phone call was made and I picked her up. Five wee ones were born and kitty is safe and fed and treated for parasites and there are a million more out there not so lucky. We have many moms turned into kill shelters by humans trying to save them, and yes they will euthanize them if not picked up by a rescue in a timely fashion; time is not on their side but many of us humans are. So many stories, so many hungry mouths to feed, and so many homes needed to adopt them all. Rescue groups rely on so many others to help
them out too. Such as our foster volunteers, our PetSmart cleaners, people that donate supplies and money and time, people that adopt and share our information to encourage others to get involved or adopt as well. We need you all, we appreciate you all, and we love you all!! Thank you!!
